Jervell and Lange‐Nielsen Syndrome Related Clinical Genetics and Experimental Models

open access: yesPediatric Discovery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Jervell and Lange‐Nielsen syndrome (JLNS) is defined by electrocardiographic QT prolongation and sensorineural hearing loss, caused by homozygous or compound heterozygous variants in KCNQ1 and/or KCNE1. KCNQ1 encodes the alpha subunit Kv7.1 of the ion channels accountable for slow delayed rectifier potassium currents (IKs), whereas KCNE1 ...

Atrial Fibrillation-Related Bradycardia and/or Bradycardia-Related Atrial Fibrillation: When and How to Intervene

open access: yes
Introduction/Objective: Atrial fibrillation (AF) could present with slow ventricular-response; bradycardia could facilitate the emergence of AF. The conviction that one “does not succumb” from bradycardia as an escape rhythm will emerge unless one ...

Antimicrobial Residues in a Key Cerrado River: Distribution, Persistence, and Effects on Zebrafish Embryo‐Larval Development

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The current study aimed to quantify the antimicrobials amoxicillin (AMX), cefazolin (CFZ), chloramphenicol (CHL), metronidazole (MTZ), and sulfamethoxazole (SX) in effluents and surface water of an important Cerrado river, calculate their half‐lives, and analyze their ecotoxicity following single and combined exposures.

A Prospective Clinical Study to Assess the Efficiency of Subarachnoid Block as Sole Anesthetic Method in Neonates Undergoing Infraumbilical Surgeries

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences
Background: Spinal anesthesia is increasingly used in neonates to minimize respiratory complications such as apnea and bradycardia. It also avoids delayed recovery associated with general anesthesia (GA) and provides stable intraoperative conditions for ...

Dihydroergotoxine-induced Bradycardia in Rats

open access: yes, 1988
Dihydroergotoxine (0.01–0.3 mg kg−1 i.v.) decreased heart rate in pentobarbitone-anaesthetized rats. The bradycardia was reduced but not blocked by pre-treatment with guanethidine, yohimbine, propranolol or pithing.

Evaluating Thiram‐Induced Embryotoxicity Using Integrated In Silico, In Vitro, and Transcriptomic Approaches

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Long‐term exposure to low‐dose food contact materials (FCMs) has raised concerns regarding developmental toxicity. In the present study, we prioritized FCMs with potential developmental toxicity using a weight‐of‐evidence computational model, which predicted 127 chemicals to be of high concern.

Diazepam facilitates reflex bradycardia in conscious rats

open access: yes, 1987
The effects of diazepam on cardiovascular function were assessed in conscious rats. Intravenous administration of diazepam (1-30 mg kg−1) produced a dose-dependent decrease in both the mean arterial pressure and the heart rate.

Presence of Nationally Banned Carbamates and Organophosphate Pesticides in Wild Carnivores, Southeastern Brazil

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As top predators, terrestrial carnivores face great risk of pesticide exposure and serve as sentinels of environmental contamination. Additionally, terrestrial carnivores are frequently threatened by intentional or secondary poisoning with highly toxic compounds, such as carbamates and organophosphates.
