Anticonvulsants and Brainstem Auditory EP
The effects on brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEPs) of carbamazepine in 18 and of valproate in 10 epileptic children were determined after 13 months of therapy at Istanbul University, Turkey.

Computation of Interaural Time Difference in the Owl's Coincidence Detector Neurons [PDF]
Both the mammalian and avian auditory systems localize sound sources by computing the interaural time difference (ITD) with submillisecond accuracy. The neural circuits for this computation in birds consist of axonal delay lines and coincidence detector ...

Data from a prospective cohort with 112 auditory brainstem implant users are analyzed. Younger age at implantation (<3 years), less severe inner‐ear malformation (common cavity, cochlear aplasia, and hypoplasia), and more intraoperative eABR evoked electrodes (≥60%) are associated with better hearing and speech outcomes.

AAV2.7m8 serotype combined with the gfaABC1D promoter targets infection of supporting cells (SCs). AAV2.7m8‐gfaABC1D‐Gjb2 administration to mice results in excessive immune responses. The combination of AAV2.7m8‐gfaABC1D‐Gjb2 with dexamethasone (DEX) shows a synergistic effect and enhances the gene therapy effect in a conditional Cx26 null mice model ...

The fusion peptide LR27‐modified thermosensitive nanodelivery system exhibits both hair cell targeting and inner ear penetrating properties. This system sustainably and effectively delivers PTH1‐34 to the inner ear of a hearing loss mouse model via the synergistic effects of multiple peptides, achieving satisfactory hearing protection through ...

Wei et al. establish a hair cell‐specific conditional knockout mouse model (Atp6v1b2fl/fl;Atoh1Cre/+), and demonstrate the importance of Atp6v1b2 for hair cell through maintaining the survival of lysosomes. A single administration of AAV‐ie‐Eh3‐mAtp6v1b2 through scala media at P0‐P2 realizes function compensation and restores hearing and balance ...

Sparsity Enables Estimation of both Subcortical and Cortical Activity from MEG and EEG [PDF]
Subcortical structures play a critical role in brain function. However, options for assessing electrophysiological activity in these structures are limited. Electromagnetic fields generated by neuronal activity in subcortical structures can be recorded non-invasively using magnetoencephalography (MEG) and electroencephalography (EEG).
