VEHICLE BRAKING ASSEMBLY WITH REDUCED SQUEAL
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2013The present disclosure relates to a vehicle braking assembly with reduced squeal, having: a brake pad operative to apply a braking force to a brake rotor or drum, the brake pad being subject to vibration during braking; and a damper attached to the pad, configured to force a squeal reducing vibration in the brake pad, the damper including: (i) a first ...

Disc Brake Squeal: An Overview
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2007<div class="htmlview paragraph">Understanding, reducing, eliminating and preventing brake squeal is a challenging task. It involves many design variables in a complex brake system and there are many harsh operational and environmental conditions under which squeal may occur. Much progress has been made on understanding brake squeal mechanisms and

It is shown that frictional vibrations can be excited in small-scale apparatus; theories to account for such vibrations are given, and experiments on brake assemblies are described to show that the theories developed apply to brake squeal generally.

Statistical analysis of brake squeal noise
Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2011Abstract Despite substantial research efforts applied to the prediction of brake squeal noise since the early 20th century, the mechanisms behind its generation are still not fully understood. Squealing brakes are of significant concern to the automobile industry, mainly because of the costs associated with warranty claims.

Correlating Dynamometer and Vehicle Brake Test Results: Brake Squeal
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2001<div class="htmlview paragraph">Brake noise dynamometers are fundamental engineering tools for the systematic and efficient investigations of noise. However, the data obtained from a dynamometer must correlate with the noise achievable on a corresponding vehicle to be of true value in an investigation.</div> <div class="htmlview ...

Moving Loads and Car Disc Brake Squeal
Noise & Vibration Worldwide, 2003Disc brake vibration and squeal is a source of irritation and distraction. A squealing brake gives customers the impression of underlying quality problems of the vehicle. The warranty cost due to disc brake noise is very high and has led to much research and investment in tackling disc brake vibration and noise.

An Analysis of Disc Brake Squeal
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1978<div class="htmlview paragraph">A squeal model for a proprietary fixed caliper disc brake is proposed which includes mass and stiffness parameters and allows for variations in the contact configuration of the pad and piston. The predicted and observed trends in squeal behaviour are shown to be in good agreement.</div>

Brake Squeal Investigations Using Acoustic Holography
Noise & Vibration Worldwide, 2005Squeal can be a major problem in the development of new automotive disc brake systems and increasing the knowledge of the parameters that generate squeal is important. The vibration motions of the brake components during squeal have been extensively studied using a variety of measurement techniques.

Effect of Damping on Brake Squeal Noise
2007Brake squeal is one of the major issues in the design process of an automotive brake and the development of a robust procedure for a "squeal-free" design is still under investigation. This paper presents an experimental investigation on a beam on disc setup.
