The Performance and Characteristics of the Disc Brake
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1964<div class="htmlview paragraph">Investigations, both theoretical and experimental, of the major factors associated with the use of disc brakes on cars are described. Dynamometer tests were derived from brake usage data and used to compare the performance of drum and disc brakes when fitted with specially designed frictional materials.

THE EFFECT OF BRAKE DISC TEMPERATURE ON BRAKING PERFORMANCE
2014In this experimental work, effect of increasing in brake disc temperature on braking performance was investigated. For this purpose, braking distance tests which the criteria of braking performance were carried out. The tests were conducted on a small-size commercial vehicle for different disc temperatures, pedal forces, the vehicle loads and for ...

Skin Temperature and Motorcyclists' Braking Performance
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 198216 male and 12 female students who had previous experience with hand-operated lever-braking systems performed braking tests with their hands at normal temperatures (mean hand temperatures 27.8°C) and with their hands cooled to give finger temperatures of 6°C and back of hand temperatures of 14°C.

A Statistical Evaluation of Brake Performance
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1986<div class="htmlview paragraph">Utilization of statistical methods can improve vehicle stopping-distance projections and reduce the complexity of brake deceleration models. These techniques can be very useful in the course of ascertaining whether an untested vehicle conforms to the applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS), but ...

A Study of the Braking Performance of Motor-Cyclists With an Integrated Braking System
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part D: Transport Engineering, 1984The purpose of the study was to evaluate the braking performance of motorcyclists using an integrated front and rear brake by comparison with conventional separated front and rear brakes. Stopping distances and the occurrence of wheel locking were measured in braking runs on a straight, flat asphalt surface, in dry and wet conditions, using the front ...

Braking performance of aircraft tires
Progress in Aerospace Sciences, 1986Abstract This paper brings under one cover the subject of aircraft braking performance and a variety of related phenomena that lead to aircraft hydroplaning, overruns, and loss of directional control. Complex processes involving tire deformation, tire slipping, and fluid pressures in the tire-runway contact area develop the friction forces for ...

Braking Performance--Roller/Compactors
2017Minimum performance criteria for service braking systems, secondary stopping systems, and parking systems for all self-propelled vibratory and static roller/compactors are provided in this SAE Recommended Practice. The purpose of this document is to define minimum braking system performance for in-service machines and to provide test criteria by which ...
