Design and analysis of an MR rotary brake for self-regulating braking torques
Review of Scientific Instruments, 2017This paper presents a novel Magneto-rheological (MR) brake system that can self-regulate the output braking torques. The proposed MR brake can generate a braking torque at a critical rotation speed without an external power source, sensors, or controllers, making it a simple and cost-effective device.

The steering system in most heavy trucks is such that it causes a destabilising steering wheel torque when braking on split friction, that is, different friction levels on the two sides of the vehicle. Moreover, advanced emergency braking systems are now

Ideal regenerative braking torque in collaboration with hydraulic brake system
2017 Twelfth International Conference on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER), 2017In the presented hybrid vehicle, the electric motor is used in collaboration with the hydraulic brake system to impose an ideal braking torque to the rear wheel. This, in order to recharge the battery. The first objective aims to recover the maximum kinetic energy available. To achieve this task, the electric motor is used until the reach of its torque

Accurate assessment of the brake torque on a rope-braked cycle ergometer
Sports Engineering, 2004A Monark cycle ergometer is a device globally used in physiological studies to measure the work and energy levels of exercising humans. In this paper a rope-braked cycle ergometer is examined to determine accurate measures of work and power. The work done is generally assumed, by physiologists, to be the load (masses suspended in a basket to apply ...

Torque Transfer in Automotive Brakes
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers: Automobile Division, 1962Recorded brake evaluation tests in automobiles and in a dual-brake inertia dynamometer show continual transfer of torque among the several brakes. The individual brakes seldom exert the designed relative braking torque, because the coefficient of friction is seldom the same in each. Experimental results are given to show torque transfer caused by fade

Electromagnetic brake with controllable torque
Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, Part II: Applications and Industry, 1961MANY LARGE materials handling machines and processing machines require smooth, accurate stopping. In the past, accurate stopping has usually been accomplished by the use of hydraulic brakes. Recently, an electromagnetic brake has been developed to perform the same functions and to overcome some disadvantages of hydraulic brakes, such as the need for ...

Brake Steer Torque Optimized Corner Braking of Motorcycles [PDF]
This thesis deals with the Brake Steer Torque (BST) induced stand-up tendency of Powered Two Wheelers (PTW) and measures to lower the associated risk for running wide on curve accidents with sudden, unforeseen braking. Focus is set on the BST Avoidance Mechanism (BSTAM), a chassis design that eliminates the BST through lateral inclination of the ...

Torque Characteristics of Commercial Vehicle Brakes
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1975<div class="htmlview paragraph">A new over-the-road brake dynamometer has recently been developed to measure commercial vehicle brake torque at nearly constant speed. In this paper, results are presented from the initial test program of this vehicle.
