A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Polygon Mesh Generation of Branching Structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We present a new method for producing locally non intersecting polygon meshes of naturally branching structures. The generated polygon mesh follows the object's underlying structure as close as possible, while still producing polygon meshes that can be visualized efficiently on commonly available graphic acceleration hardware.

Nonlinear stability criteria for tree-like structures composed of branched elastic rods

open access: yes, 2011
New necessary conditions for the nonlinear stability of branched tree-like structures composed of elastic rods are presented. The conditions, which are found by examining the second variation of an energy functional, are established by extending Legendre'

High‐Resolution MRI Revealed Different Etiology‐Specific Associations With Cerebral Infarction in Adult Moyamoya Vasculopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective High‐resolution MRI enables detailed assessment of intracranial vessel wall pathology in moyamoya vasculopathy. We aimed to classify adult moyamoya vasculopathy etiologies using high‐resolution MRI and to examine subtype‐specific associations between high‐resolution MRI features and ischemic infarction.

Clinical Practice Guideline for Evaluation and Management of Peripheral Nervous System Manifestations in Sjögren's Disease

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Sjögren's disease is an autoimmune disorder that can impact multiple organ systems, including the peripheral nervous system (PNS). PNS manifestations, which can exist concurrently, include mononeuropathies, polyneuropathies, and autonomic nervous system neuropathies.

p-nitrobenzyloxycarbonyl protective group as key to automated glycan assembly of neutral human milk oligosaccharides

open access: yesNature Communications
Human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) have highly diverse and branched structures that present a significant challenge for chemical synthesis. Here we show that masking the amino group in glucosamine with a p-nitrobenzyloxycarbonyl (pNZ) protecting group ...
