Neutron multiplication is studied as a branching process; a probabilistic model. Results for bare homogeneous reactors are expressed in terms of critical dimension and steady-state flux. A computational method for estimating these quantities by iteration of a nonlinear operator is presented. (L.N.N.)

Inequalities for Branching Processes [PDF]
A branching process is considered for which the conditional distributions of the litter sizes, given the past, are allowed to vary from period to period and are required only to belong to some set $\mathscr{M}$. The process is non-Markovian in general.

Immortal branching processes [PDF]
We introduce and study the dynamics of an \emph{immortal} critical branching process. In the classic, critical branching process, particles give birth to a single offspring or die at the same rates. Even though the average population is constant in time, the ultimate fate of the population is extinction.

The basic reproduction number, $ R_0 $, plays a central role in measuring the transmissibility of an infectious disease, and it thus acts as the fundamental index for planning control strategies.

A calculus of branching processes [PDF]
Abstract CCS-like calculi can be viewed as an extension of classical automata with communication primitives. We are interested here to follow this principle, applied to tree-automata. It naturally yields a calculus of branching processes (CBP), where the continuations of communications are allowed to branch according to the arity of the communication

Period-Life of a Branching Process with Migration and Continuous Time
The homogeneous branching process with migration and continuous time is considered. We investigated the distribution of the period-life τ, i.e., the length of the time interval between the moment when the process is initiated by a positive number of ...

Analysis of Discrete-Time Queues with Branching Arrivals
We consider a discrete-time single server queueing system, where arrivals stem from a multi-type Galton–Watson branching process with migration. This branching-type arrival process exhibits intricate correlation, and the performance of the corresponding ...
