Effects of the Fluid Replacement Method During Online Hemodiafiltration on the Solute Removal Performance and Biocompatibility Using the Asymmetric Cellulose Triacetate Membrane

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pre‐dilution online hemodiafiltration (Pre‐HDF) is predominantly used in Japan, whereas post‐dilution online HDF (Post‐HDF) is more common in Europe. An asymmetric cellulose triacetate (ATA) membrane may improve biocompatibility.

On thermodynamic states of the Ising model on scale-free graphs

open access: yesCondensed Matter Physics, 2013
There is proposed a model of scale-free random graphs which are locally close to the uncorrelated complex random networks with divergent studied in, e.g., S. N. Dorogovtsev et al, Rev. Mod. Phys., 80, 1275 (2008). It is shown that the Ising model on the

Stochastic SIS Modelling: Coinfection of Two Pathogens in Two-Host Communities

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
A pathogen can infect multiple hosts. For example, zoonotic diseases like rabies often colonize both humans and animals. Meanwhile, a single host can sometimes be infected with many pathogens, such as malaria and meningitis.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Stochastic hypothesis of transition from inborn neutropenia to AML: Interactions of cell population dynamics and population genetics

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2013
We present a stochastic model of driver mutations in the transition from severe congenital neutropenia to myelodysplastic syndrome to acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The model has the form of a multitype branching process.

Estimating the Propagation of Interdependent Cascading Outages with Multi-Type Branching Processes

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper, the multi-type branching process is applied to describe the statistics and interdependencies of line outages, the load shed, and isolated buses.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Branching Random Walks with Ageing

open access: yesMathematics
Branching processes are stochastic models describing the evolution of populations in which individuals reproduce and die independently over time. In the classical setting, an individual’s reproductive capacity is fixed throughout its lifetime.

Stochastic two-group models with transmission dependent on host infectivity or susceptibility

open access: yesJournal of Biological Dynamics, 2019
Stochastic epidemic models with two groups are formulated and applied to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. In recent emerging diseases, disease spread has been attributed to superspreaders, highly infectious individuals that infect a large ...

The control of branching morphogenesis [PDF]

open access: yesOpen Biology, 2013
Many organs of higher organisms are heavily branched structures and arise by an apparently similar process of branching morphogenesis. Yet the regulatory components and local interactions that have been identified differ greatly in these organs. It is an
