Impact of CO2‐Induced Aquatic Acidification on Environmental DNA and RNA Shedding and Persistence

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 7, Issue 4, July–August 2025.
We conducted mesocosm experiments to determine the shedding and decay rate constants of eDNA and eRNA in Pacific oysters (Crassostrea gigas) at various partial CO2 pressures in seawater. To our knowledge, this is the first study manipulating seawater pH using CO2.

Sedimentary DNA Metabarcoding and Indigenous Knowledge Reconstruct Natural and Anthropogenic Disturbances to a Freshwater Lake in the Oil Sands Region of Alberta, Canada

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 7, Issue 4, July–August 2025.
The study uses environmental DNA embedded in lake sediment cores to reconstruct historical community composition of eukaryotic functional trophic groups. Cowpar Lake is located in the Athabasca Oil Sands region that has experienced natural and anthropogenic impacts.

Prey Availability and Diet of Early Life Stages of Lake Whitefish (Coregonus clupeaformis) in the Fishing Islands of Lake Huron

open access: yesEcology of Freshwater Fish, Volume 34, Issue 3, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Declines in recruitment of lake whitefish (Coregonus clupeaformis) in the Laurentian Great Lakes have been attributed to a reduction in the amount of zooplankton prey available to young life stages, stemming from the ecosystem effects of invasive dreissenid mussels.

Ecotoxicity Thresholds for Ametryn, Diuron, Hexazinone and Simazine in Fresh and Marine Waters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Triazine and urea herbicides are two groups of photosystem II inhibiting herbicides frequently detected in surface, ground and marine waters. Yet, there are few water quality guidelines for herbicides. Ecotoxicity thresholds (ETs) for ametryn, hexazinone

Metagenomic Insights Into the Dietary Diversity of the Adaptive Radiation of Cichlid Fishes in Lake Tanganyika

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 9, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Diet specialisation is a main driver of diversification in many adaptive radiations. Therefore, identifying diet items is essential to characterise trophic specialisations and to understand the dynamics of dietary adaptations. In this study, we explored the trophic niches of 56 species from the adaptive radiation of cichlid fishes in Lake ...

Body size-related constraints on the movement behaviour of the arctic notostracan Lepidurus arcticus (Pallas, 1973) under laboratory conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The movement behaviour of individuals has long been acknowledged as a key determinant of species distribution in space and time. Information on benthic macroinvertebrates from aquatic habitats are still scant, however, and for polar species are virtually
