Breakdown characteristics of gallium arsenide

IEEE Electron Device Letters, 1981
This paper presents a comparison of the experimentally measured breakdown characteristics of high-purity gallium arsenide epitaxial layers with the theoretical calculations reported in the literature. The experimental data has been obtained by forming gold Schottky barrier diodes on material grown by using two different liquid phase epitaxial growth ...

A study on the breakdown characteristics of the fluorocarbon

Conference Record of the 1996 IEEE International Symposium on Electrical Insulation, 2002
In this paper, we investigated physical properties and electrical characteristics of the fluorocarbon used as coolants for large power gas-insulated transformers. Volume resistivity of the fluorocarbon is /spl rho/=1.87/spl times/10/sup 15/ [/spl Omega//spl middot/cm] at 1 atm, 27/spl deg/C.

Breakdown characteristics of interconnect dielectrics

2005 IEEE International Reliability Physics Symposium, 2005. Proceedings. 43rd Annual., 2005
The shrinking of line-to-line spacing in interconnect systems for advanced IC technology and the use of new lower dielectric constant materials create the need for tools to evaluate the interconnect dielectric reliability. A multi-temperature, dual ramp-rate voltage-ramp to breakdown methodology is presented and used here to extract important ...

Breakdown Characteristics of Porous Metals

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2004
We have investigated the breakdown characteristics of porous metals as discharge electrodes, for applications to multichannel arc gaps. We examined a single-needle/plane gap as a nonuniform electric field gap and a sphere/plane gap as a uniform one using a mirror-finished brass plate and a porous metal as plane electrodes.

Characteristics of gas breakdown in hollow-core fibers

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
We succeeded in obtaining gas discharge in 250-, 150-, and 50-mum inner-diameter (i.d.) hollow-core fibers (HCFs) by using longitudinal direct current excitation. Stable glow discharges of at least several minutes were observed for these HCFs. A flash glow was also observed for an HCF with an i.d. of ~20 mum. Breakdown of helium and argon gases in a 26.

Self-healing breakdown characteristics of polyimide thin films-effect of ambient gas on breakdown characteristics

IEEE 1997 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena, 2002
We have been studying the breakdown characteristics of polyimide (PI) thin films to try and take advantage of self-healing breakdown. This paper focuses on the effect of ambient gas (SF/sub 6/, N/sub 2/, O/sub 2/ and dry air) on breakdown characteristics of PI thin films.

D.c. breakdown voltage characteristics in supercritical helium: breakdown in nonuniform fields

Cryogenics, 1986
Abstract This Paper describes the results of an experimental study on the d.c. breakdown voltage characteristic of supercritical helium under a non-uniform electric field. The study was carried out to further the development of superconducting magnets cooled by supercritical helium.

Breakdown characteristics of hydrofluorocarbons in gas phase

Proceedings of Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena - CEIDP '96, 2002
AC breakdown voltage (BDV) measurements were carried out for four kinds of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), CCl/sub 2/F/sub 2/, CClHF/sub 2/, and nitrogen in gas phase of 5 to 200 kPa using sphere-plate and a needle-plate gaps. It was found from comparison in BDV among these gases, that all HFCs are less than 60% of CCl/sub 2/F/sub 2/ and less than 80% of ...

The Characteristics of Systems Breakdown

2016
This chapter leverages the conceptual framework for how systems form to explain the many ways systems break down. These ways are organized into major methods, from violent destruction to intentional retirement, and specific breakdown mechanisms within each method.

Spectral characteristics of vortex breakdown flowfields

The Physics of Fluids, 1979
Laser-Doppler anemometer measurements upstream and in the wakes of vortex breakdowns of bubble and spiral types are described. Spectral analysis of the data indicates prominent oscillations in the wakes at less than 10 Hz. These oscillations correspond closely to theoretical predictions of the linearly most unstable normal modes of the time-averaged ...
