Feeling like me again : a grounded theory of the role of breast reconstruction surgery in self-image [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The present study aimed to develop a theoretical understanding of the role of breast reconstruction in women's self-image. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 women from breast cancer support groups who had undergone breast reconstruction ...

Effect of Local Versus General Anesthesia in Breast-Conserving Surgery on Cancer Recurrence and Cost

open access: yesCancer Control, 2022
Background The association between the type of anesthesia used and the recurrence of cancer remains controversial. This study aimed to compare the effects of local vs general anesthesia on recurrence-free survival and cost after breast-conserving surgery.

Depression and conservative surgery for breast cancer [PDF]

open access: yesClinics, 2010
Depression is prevalent among women and associated with reduced quality of life, and therefore it is important to determine its incidence in adult women, especially in those with breast cancer. To determine the occurrence of depression in women who underwent conservative surgery for breast cancer with or without breast reconstruction.Seventy-five women ...

Radiation-induced fibrosarcoma after breast-conserving therapy for breast cancer: a case report and literature review

open access: yesSurgical Case Reports, 2023
Background Radiation-induced sarcoma (RIS) has a 10-year incidence of 0.2–0.27% and a poor prognosis, although the radiation should need for breast-conserving surgery. In particular, radiation-induced fibrosarcoma has been rarer, and its incidence is 2.6–

Excision margins in breast conserving surgery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The ideal excision margin in breast conserving surgery is still a matter of debate. The aim is to see if there is any correlation between increasing excision margin distance and local recurrence rate.

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.
