Breast conservation and oncoplastic surgery are associated with improved quality of life

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
IntroductionLocal treatment can be distressful to breast cancer patients. We aimed to evaluate how different types of local treatment impact the quality of life of patients.MethodsIn this retrospective cohort study, one-year postoperative Breast-Q ...

Somatostatin receptor 4 (SSTR4) is a tumor suppressor in cutaneous and head & neck squamous cell carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).

The VHL tumor suppressor at the crossroad of protein folding, aggregation, and cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Mutations, environmental stress, and chaperone dysfunction can destabilize pVHL, promoting its conversion from the native folded state into amyloid‐like assemblies. This transition may contribute to protein storage, cell dormancy, survival, and drug resistance.

Value of intra-operative ultrasound in localization of palpable or non-palpable breast tumors during breast conserving surgery

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, 2018
Purpose: Our study was designed to assess the role of intra-operative ultrasound (IOUS) as a method of localization of palpable or non-palpable breast tumors during breast conserving surgery (BCS) and ensuring adequate margins by comparing pathological ...

Recurrence after breast conserving surgery; can re-excision with intraoperative margin assessment normalize the risk of local recurrence? [PDF]

open access: yesAin-Shams Journal of Surgery, 2009
Background: Breast conserving therapy (BCT), including breast conserving surgery (BCS) and radiotherapy has become the preferred method of treatment for early stage breast cancer.

Identification and characterisation of calcitonin receptor isoforms expressed in glioblastoma derived glioma stem and U‐87 MG cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Glioblastoma cells express calcitonin receptor variants (CT receptor isoforms) that may help them survive stress. Using qPCR, transcript‐specific long‐read nanopore sequencing, immunofluorescence co‐localisation and comparative sequence analysis, this study identifies a novel alternatively spliced CALCR transcript that encodes the CTb receptor isoform ...

Breast-conserving surgery using an inframammary fold incision technique for breast cancer

open access: yes, 2017
Breast-conserving surgery is an established alternative for the majority of women with early stage breast cancer. Consensus on negative margins (no ink on tumour) for invasive cancer makes mutilating extensive lumpectomies unnecessary.
