How structural disorder and polyelectrolyte properties of prothymosin α enable its large interactome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this review, complexes of the fully disordered and highly negatively charged prothymosin α are collected, described, and discussed. Linked to its poly‐electrostatic character, prothymosin α engages a large interactome through multiple different binding modes ranging from fully disordered complexes to short linear motif (SLiM)‐driven interactions ...

Risk determination and prevention of breast cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Breast cancer is an increasing public health problem. Substantial advances have been made in the treatment of breast cancer, but the introduction of methods to predict women at elevated risk and prevent the disease has been less successful.

Breast Tissue Chemistry Measured In Vivo In Healthy Women Correlate with Breast Density and Breast Cancer Risk

open access: yes, 2022
BACKGROUND: The relationship of tissue chemistry to breast density and cancer risk has not been documented despite breast density being a known risk factor.

Fully Automated Breast Density Segmentation and Classification Using Deep Learning

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2020
Breast density estimation with visual evaluation is still challenging due to low contrast and significant fluctuations in the mammograms’ fatty tissue background.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Association of Volumetric Breast Density with Clinical and Histopathological Factors in 205 Breast Cancer Patients

open access: yes대한영상의학회지, 2018
Purpose: To evaluate the association of volumetric breast density with clinicopathological factors in breast cancer patients. Materials and Methods: A total of 205 Korean patients with breast cancer who underwent mammography for initial staging between

Mammographic breast density and breast cancer risk: Evaluation using volumetric breast density software

open access: yesJournal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics, 2020
The study aimed to assess breast density as a risk factor for breast malignancy using automated volumetric breast density software and to study the relationship of breast density with tumor histopathological characteristics. One hundred and thirty-four women with unilateral core biopsy-proven breast cancer were taken in the "case group." Two hundred and

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Breast cancer susceptibility loci and mammographic density

open access: yes, 2019
Introduction Recently, the Breast Cancer Association Consortium (BCAC) conducted a multi-stage genome-wide association study and identified 11 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with breast cancer risk.
