Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Youth With Childhood‐Onset Lupus: A Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Our objective was to determine the feasibility and acceptability of the Treatment and Education Approach for Childhood‐Onset Lupus (TEACH), a six‐session cognitive behavioral intervention addressing depressive, fatigue, and pain symptoms, delivered remotely to individual youth with lupus by a trained interventionist.

Discrete breathers in dissipative lattices

open access: yes, 2001
We study the properties of discrete breathers, also known as intrinsic localized modes, in the one-dimensional Frenkel-Kontorova lattice of oscillators subject to damping and external force.

Oscillons and quasi-breathers in D+1 dimensions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We study oscillons in D+1 space-time dimensions using a spherically symmetric ansatz. From Gaussian initial conditions, these evolve by emitting radiation, approaching ``quasi-breathers'', near-periodic solutions to the equations of motion.

Differential Item Functioning on the Patient Health Questionnaire 8 by Disease Subtype, Language, Sex, and Age Among People With Systemic Sclerosis: A Scleroderma Patient‐Centered Intervention Network Cohort Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Somatic items used in depression assessments can potentially overlap with symptoms related to physical illness, including systemic sclerosis (SSc). No studies have looked at whether somatic depression items may be influenced by diffuse versus limited SSc disease subtypes, which are associated with varying degrees of symptom presentation.

Numerical investigation of stability of breather-type solutions of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2014
In this article we conduct a broad numerical investigation of stability of breather-type solutions of the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation, a widely used model of rogue wave generation and dynamics in deep water. NLS breathers rising over an unstable

Breathers in a system with helicity and dipole interaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Recent papers that have studied variants of the Peyrard-Bishop model for DNA, have taken into account the long range interaction due to the dipole moments of the hydrogen bonds between base pairs.

Discordance between patient and physician global assessments in early systemic sclerosis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective This study aims to identify factors associated with patient and physician global assessments and discordance between them in systemic sclerosis (SSc). Methods Data from adults with early SSc (< 5 years) from the CONQUER registry were included.

Directional soliton and breather beams [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2019
Significance Understanding the fundamental dynamics of directional and localized waves is of significant importance for modeling ocean waves as well as predicting extreme events. We report a theoretical framework, based on the universal (2D + 1) nonlinear Schrödinger equation, that allows the construction of slanted solitons and breathers on ...

Perceived Impacts and Predictors of Cannabis Products used by Rheumatology Patients in Alberta: A Multivariable Analysis of Cross‐sectional Survey Data

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective This study aimed to characterize cannabis product choices (cannabinoid content and formulation) among rheumatology patients, and their associations with patient factors, patient reported perceived side effects and positive impacts. Methods An online survey (delivered from March to November 2022) was distributed by Alberta Health Services to ...

Review on the Stability of the Peregrine and Related Breathers

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2020
In this note, we review stability properties in energy spaces of three important nonlinear Schrödinger breathers: Peregrine, Kuznetsov-Ma, and Akhmediev.
