Pneumonia of Turkey Breeder Hens Associated with Mycoplasma Synoviae
Avian Diseases, 2007Turkey breeder hens showed an increase in mortality beginning at 38 wk of age with no other clinical signs or changes in egg production. While no respiratory signs were observed in live turkeys, those that died consistently had gross lesions of pneumonia.

Avian Diseases, 2004Two flocks of turkey breeders experienced an increased mortality and high culling rate in the first weeks of egg production. The majority of dead and culled hens had cheesy core in the cloaca and vagina. Postmortem examination revealed fibrinous pseudomembranes in the vagina and cloaca.

Bacteria associated with beak necrosis in broiler breeder hens
Veterinary Record, 1976Beak necrosis occurred in 48 per cent of female broiler breeders used fro nutritional studies but none was found in male broiler breeders or in either sex of single comb white Leghorns. About 10 per cent mortality, probably largely due to beak necroses, occurred in the affected flock.

Teratogenic Activity of Arasan Fed to Broiler Breeder Hens
Avian Diseases, 1975Tetramethylthiuramdisulfide (TMTD), the active ingredient in Arasan, fed to broiler breeder hens at 10, 20, or 40 ppm depressed egg production, reduced hatchability, and resulted in soft-shelled eggs. The progeny of these hens had anomalies manifested by bilaternal medial deviation of the toes, exophthalmia, and shortened femurs.

2012Commercial breeds of the domestic chicken include egg-layers (L) that produce table eggs, and meat strains. The former are lightweight hens that lay more than 250 eggs/bird at 60 weeks old. Meat strains are heavier birds bred for good carcass conformation and have a high rate of growth.
