Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

Climatological effects on the breeding of terns [PDF]
The physical circulation in the Western Indian Ocean controls the supply of nutrients, and this, combined with the stability of the surface layer and the availability of sunlight controls the primary production.

Trait uniformity, or micro-environmental sensitivity, may be studied through individual differences in residual variance. These differences appear to be heritable, and the need exists, therefore, to fit models to predict breeding values explaining ...

CGIAR Excellence in Breeding Platform - Plan of Work and Budget 2020 [PDF]
At the end of 2019, all CGIAR centers had submitted improvement plans based on an EiB template and in close collaboration with EiB staff while – in a parallel process with breeding programs, funders and private sector representatives – a vision for ...

Emerging experimental and computational methods for studying redox‐regulated structural transitions
Redox reactions can reshape proteins and alter how they behave in cells, with important consequences for health and disease. This review explores emerging experimental and computational approaches for discovering these redox‐sensitive protein switches, revealing their structural effects, and predicting their behavior, opening new opportunities to ...

Maximizing Genetic Response in Breeding Schemes of Dairy Cattle with Constraints on Variance of Response [PDF]
Predicted genetic progress in dairy cattle breeding schemes was maximized with the variances of selection responses constrained, i.e., restricted effective population sizes. This restriction would also lead to schemes with acceptable rates of inbreeding (

Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...

BackgroundGenomic breeding value estimation is the key step in genomic selection. Among many approaches, BLUP methods and Bayesian methods are most commonly used for estimating genomic breeding values. Here, we applied two BLUP methods, TABLUP and GBLUP,
