Notes on a probable respiratory apparatus in eggs ofBrevipalpus phoenicis(Acari: Tenuipalpidae)
International Journal of Acarology, 1999Abstract Eggs of Brevipalpus phoenicis (Geijskes) are initially smooth and show longitudinal carinae 2 to 3 days after oviposition. The same eegs then develop a globular structure, probably involved in respiration, at the equatorial region. This structure is 10 μm in diameter and has a lateral opening 0.8 μm in diameter.

The false spider mite, Brevipalpus phoenicis (Geijskes), is one the most important pests of the citrus groves and transmits the citrus leprosis virus. The acaricide hexythiazox has been widely used for controlling B. phoenicis in citrus groves. The resistance of this species to hexythiazox has already been detected at high frequencies at some locations.
