Tie2 activity in cancer associated myofibroblasts serves as novel target against reprogramming of cancer cells to embryonic-like cell state and associated poor prognosis in oral carcinoma patients

open access: yesJournal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research
Background Myofibroblastic cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAF) in tumor stroma serves as an independent poor prognostic indicator, supporting higher stemness in oral cancer; however, the underlying biology is not fully comprehended.

Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) regulates trophoblast syncytialization through organelle stress–induced cellular senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The inhibition of mitochondrial dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) impairs syncytialization and induces cellular senescence via mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum stress in human trophoblast stem cells, elevating sFlt1/PlGF levels, a hallmark of placental dysfunction in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

Associations of Rheumatoid Arthritis Disease Activity with Frailty Over Five Years of Follow‐up

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective To evaluate whether rheumatoid arthritis (RA) disease activity is associated with frailty both in cross‐section and longitudinally. Methods Participants within the Veterans Affairs Rheumatoid Arthritis registry enrolled from 2003 to 2022 were included. The exposure was RA disease activity measured by Disease Activity Score in 28‐joints (DAS28)

Probing Intrinsic Charm with Semileptonic B Decays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We discuss semileptonic B decays of the form B -> J/Psi e nu X as possible probes of intrinsic charm. We calculate the leading order perturbative contribution to the process B- -> J/Psi e- nu_e X and find it to be unobservably small, with a branching ...

Structure Formation in Butterfly Scales: Interplay of Genetic Control, Mechanical Instabilities, and Dynamic Material Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Butterfly wing scales are intricate cuticular functional nanosctructures. This perspective suggests that spatially varying material properties, cytoskeletal constraints, and growth‐driven mechanical instabilities shape the resulting nanoscale architectures created from single cells.

Benign Recurrent Intrahepatic Cholestases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis (BRIC) or idiopathic recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis is a rare case. It is a familial and autosomal recessive. The etiology of BRIC is still unknown. We report the case of a patient with BRIC who suffered from

Machine Learning for Green Solvents: Assessment, Selection and Substitution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Environmental regulations have intensified demand for green solvents, but discovery is limited by Solvent Selection Guides (SSGs) that quantify solvent sustainability. Training a machine learning model on GlaxoSmithKline SSG, a database of sustainability metrics for 10,189 solvents, GreenSolventDB is developed. Integrated with Hansen solubility metrics,

Traumatic brain injury in pedestrian–vehicle collisions: Convexity and suitability of some functionals used as injury metrics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background and Objective: Abrupt accelerations or decelerations can cause large strain in brain tissues and, consequently, different forms of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). In order to predict the effect of the accelerations upon the soft tissues of the
