The UV-upturn in brightest cluster galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2010
This paper is part of a series devoted to the investigation of a large sample of brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs), their properties and the relationships between these and the properties of the host clusters.

The Luminosity Profiles of Brightest Cluster Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2011
(Abridged) We have derived detailed R band luminosity profiles and structural parameters for a total of 430 brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs), down to a limiting surface brightness of 24.5 mag/arcsec^2.

The Origin of the Brightest Cluster Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1997
Most clusters and groups of galaxies contain a giant elliptical galaxy in their centres which far outshines and outweighs normal ellipticals. The origin of these brightest cluster galaxies is intimately related to the collapse and formation of the ...

Dynamics and Shape of Brightest Cluster Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We identified Brightest Cluster Members (BCM) on DSS images of 1083 Abell clusters, derived their individual and host cluster redshifts from literature and determined the BCM ellipticity.

The brightest UV-selected galaxies in protoclusters at $z\sim4$: Ancestors of Brightest Cluster Galaxies? [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2019
We present the results of a survey of the brightest UV-selected galaxies in protoclusters. These proto-brightest cluster galaxy (proto-BCG) candidates are drawn from 179 overdense regions of $g$-dropout galaxies at $z\sim4$ from the Hyper Suprime-Cam ...

Parsec-scale Properties of Brightest Cluster Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy and Astrophysics, 2010
We present new VLBI observations at 5 GHz of a complete sample of Brightest Cluster Galaxies (BCGs) in nearby Abell Clusters (distance class

Evolution of brightest cluster galaxies in X ray clusters [PDF]

open access: bronzeMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2002
A recent paper (Burke, Collins & Mann 2000) presents the analysis of the K-band Hubble diagram of 76 brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) in X-ray clusters and shows that the properties of BCGs depend on the X-ray luminosity (Lx) of their host clusters.

Properties of the Brightest Cluster Galaxy and Its Host Cluster [PDF]

open access: bronzeThe Astrophysical Journal, 2003
We investigate the relation between the properties of Brightest Cluster Galaxies (BCGs) and those of their host clusters. To quantify the properties of cluster hot gas, we employ the parameter $Z$ of the fundamental plane of X-ray clusters. It is found that the offset of the BCG from the peak of cluster X-ray emission is larger for smaller $Z$ clusters.

Brightest cluster galaxies: the centre can(not?) hold [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2020
ABSTRACT We explore the persistence of the alignment of brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) with their local environment. We find that a significant fraction of BCGs do not coincide with the centroid of the X-ray gas distribution and/or show peculiar velocities (they are not at rest with respect to the cluster mean).
