Optomechanical time-domain reflectometry

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Distributed fibre sensors are so far restricted to the monitoring of conditions within the core. Here, Bashan et al. introduce distributed optomechanical mapping of outside media, where light cannot reach. The sensor resolves forward stimulated Brillouin

Strain‐Modulated Reconfigurable Optical Information Processing in Flexible Graphene/PDMS

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Graphene/PDMS—a stable, mechanically robust, and highly tunable flexible composite, exhibits excellent strain‐tunability. The spatial self‐phase modulation (SSPM) effect can be reversibly and continuously modulated by strain. A strain‐gated optical switch can be constructed, thereby realizing reconfigurable optical logic gates and reversible switching ...

Programmable Elastic Wave Control Via Mechanical‐Acoustic Interaction in Bistable Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A mechanically programmable metamaterial based on mechanical‐acoustic interaction enables reconfigurable elastic wave control through bistable state switching. Spatial encoding of peak and valley states tunes band structures and transmission, achieving low‐frequency vibration suppression, waveguiding, and energy localization.

Multiferroic‐Centric Materials and Systems Engineering for Battery Applications: An Insight Into Mechanisms, Strategies, and Characterizations

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multiferroic order parameters – polarization, magnetization, and ferroelastic strain – are positioned as dynamic design variables for batteries. Their mechanistic roles, practical tuning through fabrication and external fields, and ferroic‐resolved characterization routes are unified into a closed‐loop framework, revealing how coupled ferroic responses

Birefringence-induced phase delay enables Brillouin mechanical imaging in turbid media

open access: yesNature Communications
Acoustic vibrations of matter convey fundamental viscoelastic information that can be optically retrieved by hyperfine spectral analysis of the inelastic Brillouin scattered light. Increasing evidence of the central role of the viscoelastic properties in

Brillouin light scattering investigations of structured permalloy films [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The static and spin wave properties of regular square lattices of magnetic dots of 0.5-2 microm dot diameter and 1-4 microm periodicity patterned in permalloy films have been investigated by Brillouin light scattering.
