Effects of Front Plate Geometry on Brush Seal in Highly Swirling Environments of Gas Turbine

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
Advanced brush seal technology has a significant impact on the performance and efficiency of gas turbine engines. However, in highly inlet swirling environments, the bristles of a brush seal tend to circumferentially slip, which may lead to aerodynamic ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Nitrogen and carbohydrate fractions on Tifton-85 pastures overseeded with annual winter and summer forage species in different seasons

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Zootecnia, 2012
An experiment was conducted during the 2001-2002 winter-spring-summer to determine the nitrogen and carbohydrate fractions in Tifton-85 pastures exclusively or overseeded with oats, millet and sorghum-sudangrass hybrids.

Determination of bristle direction in Drosophila [PDF]

open access: yesDevelopmental Biology, 1969
Abstract In Drosophila melanogaster the recessive mutant aristaless ( al ) leads to an abnormal orientation of the posterior scutellar bristles. The mutant also affects the shape of the dorsal scutellar surface. Heterozygous al + al flies show more than 10% penetrance in causing mutant-type bristle orientation.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

The bristle pattern development in Drosophila melanogaster: the prepattern and achaete-scute genes

open access: yesВавиловский журнал генетики и селекции, 2019
The external drosophila mechanoreceptors, residing on the head and body of imago, are represented by bristles of different sizes (macrochaetes and microchaetes).

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Flow Conditioning to Control the Effects of Inlet Swirl on Brush Seal Performance in Gas Turbine Engines

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2022
When subject to highly swirling inlet flow, the bristles on the upstream face of a brush seal in gas turbine engines tend to slip circumferentially, which may lead to aeromechanical instability and seal failure. In this article, a new design of the front
