Scattering mechanical performances for brittle bulk metallic glasses
Scattering mechanical performances of brittle La- and Mg-based BMGs are found in the present study. Upon dynamic loading, there exist largely scattered fracture strengths even if the strain rates are under the same order, and the BMG systems are the same.

The method of iterated conformal maps is developed for quasi-static fracture of brittle materials, for all modes of fracture. Previous theory, that was relevant for mode III only, is extended here to mode I and II.

Nonadiabatic Study of Dynamic Electronic Effects during Brittle Fracture of Silicon [PDF]
It has long been observed that brittle fracture of materials can lead to emission of high energy electrons and UV photons, but an atomistic description of the origin of such processes has lacked.

Anomalous Scaling of Fracture Surfaces
We argue that fracture surfaces may exhibit anomalous dynamic scaling properties akin to what occurs in some models of kinetic roughening. We determine the complete scaling behavior of the local fluctuations of a brittle fracture in a granite block from ...

Elevated-temperature impact toughness of Mg–(Gd, Y)–Zr alloy [PDF]
The Charpy impact results for Mg–10Gd–3Y–0.5Zr and Mg–11Y–5Gd–2Zn–0.5Zr alloys at various temperatures showed that Mg–10Gd–3Y–0.5Zr was more sensitive to temperature. The increase in impact toughness with temperature was related to the blunt crack-tip at

Zein‐Based Adhesives: Sustainable Extraction and Application in Bioadhesive Technologies
Zein is extracted from corn gluten meal using a simple and scalable process with high yield (~90%). The resulting protein is applied in bioadhesives modified with Ca2+ and Fe3+ ions, exhibiting substrate‐dependent adhesion. The findings demonstrate competitive bonding performance and highlight the role of ionic interactions in tuning adhesion ...

Mixed mode I/II/III fracture assessment of PMMA using a new test fixture [PDF]
Brittle and quasi-brittle fracture has been recognized as the main failure mechanism in various structural components. Due to complexity of the components’ geometry and loading condition, a combination of tensile, in-plane shear and out of plane shear ...

Effect of Repeated Loads on the Low Temperature Fracture Behavior of Notched and Welded Plates [PDF]
The influence of repeated loadings on the susceptibility of weldments to fracture in a brittle manner is studied for an ABS-Class C steel. The test members have consisted primarily of 12, 24 and 36 in.
