Graphical modeling and animation of brittle fracture [PDF]
In this paper, we augment existing techniques for simulating flexible objects to include models for crack initiation and propagation in three-dimensional volumes. By analyzing the stress tensors computed over a finite element model, the simulation determines where cracks should initiate and in what directions they should propagate.

The numerical analysis of dynamically loaded ceramic: a crack softening approach [PDF]
A physically based crack softening approach to modelling the failure of brittle materials that have been subjected to dynamic loading is presented and applied to a two-dimensional non-linear transient dynamic hydrocode.

Setting of Natural Fracture Splitting Surface on Connecting Rod and Its Formation Mechanism
To break through the limitation of fracture splitting process on material selection and solve problems during fracture splitting such as parts tearing, failing to split, dropping dregs, fracture surface deformation and so on, a new technique of setting ...

Powder metal processing provides scalable advantages in nanoporous (np) metal development. Mechanical alloying is used to produce unique precursors for hybrid nanopore formation by oxide reduction and dealloying. As demonstrated in np Ag, this approach improves process efficiency while promoting smaller ligaments and larger pores, both of which are ...

Studies into the Failure Prediction of Brittle Materials [PDF]
This thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter provides a brief introduction concerning the behaviour of brittle materials. It also contains the justification for the undertaking of the study as well as a brief description of the method ...
