Instrument self-noise and sensor misalignment [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Geosciences, 2013
In this study we investigate self-noise of RefTekTM 151-60A "Observer" broadband seismometers (flat to velocity between 50 Hz down to T0=60 s, f0≈17 mHz) using the coherency analysis method introduced by Sleeman et al. (2006).

Numerical and Experimental Investigations of Modal Coherence Characteristics for the Determination of Broadband Noise in Flow Ducts

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2022
This paper presents a detailed investigation about the modal coherence characteristics of turbomachinery noise. The modal coherence characteristics of ducted noise at high frequencies are investigated by establishing three kinds of ducted sound source ...

3D Computation of Broadband Slat Noise from Swept and Unswept High-Lift Wing Sections

open access: yes, 2011
In previous work a RANS based simulation technique for the simulation of broadband slat noise was established. Good agreement was found between predicted and measured slat noise spectra.

Slat Noise Prediction using Discontinuous Galerkin Method and Stochastic Turbulent Sound Source

open access: yes, 2010
A promising way to predict airframe noise is the numerical solution of the Acoustic Perturbation Equations (APE) with the help of the Discontinuous Galerkin Method (DGM) and the Fast Random Particle Mesh (FRPM) method.

Beyond the audible: the effects of broadband noise pollution on the development of an herbaceous and a woody plant

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution
Although plants and microorganisms can respond to sound (mainly single frequency bands), the effects of anthropogenic noise—particularly broadband traffic noise—remain largely unexplored, especially when plants and soil microbial communities are ...

A spatial correlation model for broadband surface noise [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2020
The spatial correlation function for broadband ocean surface noise is considered in horizontally stratified media. It is expressed as an integral over the correlation function of the sound field radiated by a single noise source in the waveguide, assuming spatially uncorrelated noise sources with the same intensity that are distributed on the sea ...

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

Intensity discrimination and loudness for tones in broadband noise [PDF]

open access: yesPerception & Psychophysics, 1990
In two previous papers (Parker & Schneider, 1980; Schneider & Parker, 1987), we developed a model, based on Fechner's assumption, which successfully predicted the relationship between loudness and intensity discrimination for tones presented in quiet and in notched noise.

From Shear to Sound: Mechanics–Acoustics Mapping of TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) lattices are mapped across mechanical and acoustic performance, revealing that descriptors validated in compression fail under shear. First‐time comparison with trusses included. A transition from porous to resonance‐driven absorption emerges at 25% density.
