Ten 3-day-old chicks were submitted from a flock experiencing high mortality. Necropsy revealed lacrimation, diarrhea, pleural effusion, hemorrhage and ulceration of the proventriculus, and swollen, hemorrhagic livers. Numerous yellow granules were present in the crop. Assayed crop contents contained 39 ppm diazinon [O,O-diethyl O-(2-isopropyl-4-methyl-

Polymelia in a Broiler Chicken
Avian Diseases, 1985A polymelus monster was observed in a 7-week-old slaughterhouse chicken. The supernumerary limbs were smaller than the normal appendages but contained an equal number of digits.

The Broiler-Corn Ratio: Is it an Indicator of Fattened Broiler Profits?
Research Papers in Economics, 2007As consumers eat healthier and obesity concerns increase, the poultry industry continues growth in sales and revenues. Data reflect ten years of broiler prices, exports, egg and chick production, cold storage stocks, company earnings and stock price. Expected results suggest a broiler-corn ratio is an indicator of company profits.

Pasteurella multocida, the etiologic agent of fowl cholera, was isolated from six broiler flocks in Georgia during summer 1988. The flocks ranged in age from 20 to 46 days, represented four companies, and spanned a distance of 50 miles. Increased mortality and lameness were the clinical signs present in all affected flocks. Bacterial isolation and agar

Diagnosis, Pathology, and Etiology of Tenosynovitis in Broilers and Broiler Breeders
Avian Diseases, 1972Tenosynovitis virus isolated from the leg tendons of broilerbreeder replacement chickens produced enlarged, firm, and partially nonfunctional leg tendons in broiler chicks, following footpad (FP), intramuscular (IM), and intraperitoneal (IP) inoculation.

In the EC every year about 2 000 000 000 (2 × 109) broilers are transported from the growers to the processing plants. Transport distances vary considerably. Even in the Netherlands broilers are often transported more than a 100 km. Several types of chicken crates or containers are used within the EC.

Stress of transportation for broilers
Veterinary Record, 1984Transporting birds for two to four hours over distances of up to 224 km (140 miles) induced hyperlipacidaemia and hypoglycaemia while the concentration of plasma cholesterol decreased and then increased significantly. These responses were the same in summer and winter. Body temperature was not affected by the experimental conditions.

SUMMARY A total of 3750 broiler chicks were reared on the floor in two experiments replicated 8-12 times. Rate of growth, feed efficiency, mortality, and coccidial lesions were investigated comparing two anticoccidial agents and a negative control group. Lesion scores (severity of 1-4) were determined on sacrificed chicks at 3/2 and 7 weeks of age.
