Pathology of ochratoxicosis A in young broiler chicks

Research in Veterinary Science, 1984
Ochratoxin A (OA), a potent nephrotoxin, was fed in the diet in sublethal concentrations (2 and 4 ppm) to broiler chicks for 20 days from hatch. Its effects on growth, relative organ size and histology of the liver, kidney and lymphoid organs were investigated.

Analysis of metabolic pools in broilers chicks

Isotopes in Environmental and Health Studies, 2015
This paper shows the possibility of obtaining new parameters for the mathematical modelling of data on stable isotopes in biological systems and its application in obtaining data on metabolic pools of blood plasma, blood serum, liver and muscle of broilers.

The tryptophan requirement of broiler chicks

British Poultry Science, 1979
The "available" tryptophan requirements of male and female broiler chicks were determined at 7-d intervals from 0 to 56 d, using a diet-dilution technique. Availability of tryptophan in the diets was estimated by growth assay with chicks. 2. The tryptophan requirements were 2.4 (males) and 2.2 g/kg of diet (female) from 0-7 d, and 1.7 g/kg (males and ...

Drinking behaviour of broiler chicks

Applied Animal Ethology, 1983
Abstract A study of drinking behaviour of individual broiler breeder chicks from hatching to 5 weeks of age was conducted. The action patterns involved in obtaining a drink as well as water consumption were described quantitatively and qualitatively. Over the experimental period, the action patterns of drinking were modified gradually. Marked changes

Impact of chlorpyrifos on health biomarkers of broiler chicks

Pesticide Biochemistry and Physiology, 2015
The present study aimed to investigate the deleterious effects of chlorpyrifos (CPF) in experimentally exposed broiler birds. The experiment was carried out on one day old (n = 120) broiler chicks. The CPF was reconstituted in corn oil as vehicle (1 ml/kg) to obtain a final concentration of a single dose to the birds 5, 10 and 20 mg/kg body weight (BW)

Haematological and morphological responses of broiler chicks to hypoxia

Avian Pathology, 1990
Broiler chicks were subjected to experimentally-induced hypoxia and the haematology, together with the histopathology and ultrastructure of heart, liver, lung and kidney and the ultracytochemistry of heart tissues were examined. The haemoglobin concentration, packed cell volume and red blood cell counts were significantly increased compared with ...

Isolation of Preadipocytes from Broiler Chick Embryos

Journal of Visualized Experiments, 2022
Primary preadipocytes are a valuable experimental system for understanding the molecular pathways that control adipocyte differentiation and metabolism. Chicken embryos provide the opportunity to isolate preadipocytes from the earliest stage of adipose development. This primary cell can be used to identify factors influencing preadipocyte proliferation

Absorption and Metabolism of Ginger Compounds in Broiler Chicks

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2023
Bioavailability is critical in ensuring bioefficacy of ginger compounds, which have not been studied in chicks. In this study, day-old chicks were treated with ginger root extract at 0.0, 0.4, 0.8, 1.5, and 3.0% for 42 days. The gingerols and shogaols in chick samples were analyzed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.

Pathology and Histopathology of Gossypol Toxicity in Broiler Chicks

Avian Diseases, 2001
Two experiments were conducted to determine the toxicity, pathology, and histopathology of purified gossypol in broiler chicks. Gossypol was added to broiler feed at 0, 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg of feed in Experiment 1 and at 0, 800, and 1600 mg/kg of feed in Experiment 2.

Characterization of a Picornavirus Isolated from Broiler Chicks

Avian Diseases, 1979
The rectal content of an apparently normal 1-week-old broiler chick yielded an unclassified cytopathogenic virus with cytopathic effects of the round type. It was identified as a picornavirus from the following: ribonucleic acid in the viral core; virus growth in the cytoplasm; a particle about 30 nm in diameter; resistance to ethyl ether, chloroform ...
