High‐Resolution Elemental Record From the Holocene Sediments of an Alpine Lake in the Central Altai Mountains: Implications for Arctic Sea‐Ice Variations

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, 2021
It is well known that Arctic sea ice and Arctic amplification have played an important role in recent climate change in middle to high latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere.

Halogenation of the N‐Terminus Tyrosine 10 Promotes Supramolecular Stabilization of the Amyloid‐β Sequence 7–12

open access: yesChemistryOpen, 2020
Here, we demonstrate that introduction of halogen atoms at the tyrosine 10 phenol ring of the DSGYEV sequence derived from the flexible amyloid‐β N‐terminus, promotes its self‐assembly in the solid state.

Rapid Carbon Formation from Spontaneous Reaction of Ferrocene and Liquid Bromine at Ambient Conditions

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2020
Herein, we present an interesting route to carbon derived from ferrocene without pyrolysis. Specifically, the direct contact of the metallocene with liquid bromine at ambient conditions released rapidly and spontaneously carbon soot, the latter ...

CEACAM1 participation in breast cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In invasive breast cancer (BC), CEACAM1 shifts from an apical to a uniform membranous/cytoplasmic pattern, or is lost, as tumors dedifferentiate, inversely tracking the Ki‐67 proliferative index. In MCF‐7 cells, only CEACAM1‐4L suppresses proliferation, repressing cell cycle and growth factor genes.

Pressure-Dependent Thermal and Mechanical Behaviour of a Molecular Crystal of Bromine

open access: yesMolecules
This study investigates the pressure-dependent thermal and mechanical properties of solid bromine through density functional theory (DFT) calculations used in conjunction with the quasi-harmonic approximation (QHA).

Direct detection of atmospheric atomic bromine leading to mercury and ozone depletion

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2019
Significance We report atmospheric bromine atom measurements, which quantitatively explain the removal of the ozone and mercury from the near-surface Arctic troposphere. Bromine atoms are proposed to dominate mercury oxidation and its deposition into the

Sex‐Stratified Association of Regional Dopamine Transporter Binding With Disease Progression in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To clarify the clinical relevance of dopamine transporter single‐photon emission computed tomography (DAT‐SPECT) abnormalities in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), with a prespecified focus on sex‐stratified associations with disease progression and short‐term prognosis.

Influence of Scan Strategies in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion on Solidification, Microstructure, and High‐Temperature Compressive Properties of γ′‐Strengthened Inconel 738LC

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Experiments and thermophysical simulations were conducted to investigate the electron beam powder bed fusion electron beam (PBF‐EB/M) process for the γ′‐strengthened nickel‐based superalloy Inconel 738LC. The results demonstrate the impact of process‐induced microstructural variations on high‐temperature mechanical behavior, providing a basis for ...

Peroxidasin-mediated bromine enrichment of basement membranes

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2020
Significance Bromine is an essential trace element, required for the formation of sulfilimine cross-links in collagen IV, a basement membrane protein. Sulfilimine cross-link formation depends on the production of hypobromous acid by peroxidasin. Once the

Superlubricity and Corrosion Inhibition Properties of Solvate Ionic Liquids in Hybrid Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic–Steel Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Solvate ionic liquids lubrication reduced the coefficient of friction by ∼60% compared to dry sliding, reaching steady‐state values as low as 0.04–0.05. Corrosion weight‐loss measurements in 1 M HCl further demonstrated significant inhibition behavior, with only 100 ppm of [Li(G3)][TFSI] (∼68.5 μL/L) reducing corrosion‐product weight loss by 63 ...
