Mechanisms altering airway smooth muscle cell Ca(2+) homeostasis in two asthma models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background: Asthma is characterized by airway remodeling, altered mucus production and airway smooth muscle cell (ASMC) contraction causing extensive airway narrowing. In particular, alterations of ASMC contractility seem to be of crucial importance. The

Mechanical ventilation in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma

open access: yesIndian Journal of Anaesthesia, 2015
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and bronchial asthma often complicate the surgical patients, leading to post-operative morbidity and mortality. Many authors have tried to predict post-operative pulmonary complications but not specifically in

Bronchial Hypereactivity in Heart Failure Patients

open access: yesMajalah Kardiologi Indonesia, 2013
Incidence of paroxysmal dyspnea accompanied by wheezing and coughing is a typical picture of congestive heart failure (congestive heart failure/CHF) formerly known as cardiac asthma.

Bronchial thermoplasty in asthma: an exploratory histopathological evaluation in distinct asthma endotypes/phenotypes

open access: yesRespiratory Research, 2021
Background Bronchial thermoplasty regulates structural abnormalities involved in airway narrowing in asthma. In the present study we aimed to investigate the effect of bronchial thermoplasty on histopathological bronchial structures in distinct asthma ...

On the Role of Mechanics in Chronic Lung Disease. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Progressive airflow obstruction is a classical hallmark of chronic lung disease, affecting more than one fourth of the adult population. As the disease progresses, the inner layer of the airway wall grows, folds inwards, and narrows the lumen.

Single‐Cell Insights Into Macrophage Subtypes in Pulmonary Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review highlights the dynamic plasticity of macrophages during pulmonary infections and proposes an integrative framework defining six functional subtypes: Inflam‐Ms, Hub‐Ms, Reg‐Ms, Prolif‐Ms, Memory‐Ms, and Senesc‐Ms. Single‐cell omics delineate their distinct roles in homeostasis and infection, refining our understanding of macrophage ...

Clinical Relevance of Plasma Concentrations of MBL in Accordance with IgE Levels in Children Diagnosed with Bronchial Asthma

open access: yesMedicina, 2020
Background and objectives: Bronchial asthma is a heterogeneous, multifactorial pulmonary disease characterized by variable airway obstruction caused by chronic inflammation. Our study investigates the clinical relevance of MBL plasma levels in accordance

Boron Nitride Nanomaterials Trigger Immunomodulatory Effects in Human Broncho‐Epithelial Cells by Modulating Eicosanoid Lipid Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that BNNT exposure disrupts lipid homeostasis in bronchial epithelial cell cultures and activates eicosanoid lipid biosynthesis, producing inflammatory lipid mediators like leukotrienes. These effects are more pronounced in asthmatic cell cultures compared to healthy ones.
