Viral Testing and Isolation of Patients With Bronchiolitis
Pediatrics, 2007In this issue of Pediatrics , Harris et al1 raise important issues that highlight the importance of controlling the spread of infections among young ill children. The goal of the clinical practice guideline “Diagnosis and Management of Bronchiolitis”2 was to provide recommendations for the diagnosis and management of children between 1 month and 2 ...

THE DISTURBANCES OF VENTILATION IN ACUTE VIRAL BRONCHIOLITIS [PDF]
SYNOPSISRespiratory function studies have been performed on 24 infants with acute viral bronchiolitis. The results of these have demonstrated increased thoracic gas volume and total pulmonary resistance, and decreased dynamic compliance. These changes have reverted to normal within 7 to 10 days of the onset of the illness.

High-Frequency Percussive Ventilation in Viral Bronchiolitis
Respiratory Care, 2022High-frequency percussive ventilation (HFPV) is an alternative mode of mechanical ventilation that has been shown to improve gas exchange in subjects with severe respiratory failure. We hypothesized that HFPV use would improve ventilation and oxygenation in intubated children with acute bronchiolitis. In this single-center prospective cohort study we ...

Advances in the Treatment and Prevention of Severe Viral Bronchiolitis
Pediatric Annals, 2005Viral bronchiolitis continues to be a major public health problem. Prevention of severe RSV-associated bronchiolitis has been achieved in high-risk infants by passive administration of the humanized monoclonal anti-RSV-F antibody, palivizumab. Development of more potent anti-RSV neutralizing antibodies is underway, and vaccine development continues to ...

TSLP and periostin in infants with viral bronchiolitis
7.4 Paediatric Respiratory Infection and Immunology, 2016Background. There is growing interest on thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) and periostin in allergic diseases, but less is known about their role in viral bronchiolitis . Objective : to evaluate the airway immune response of infants with bronchiolitis and determine whether immune response is related to disease severity of viral etiology ...

Current treatment for acute viral bronchiolitis in infants
Expert Opinion on Pharmacotherapy, 2003This paper provides an update and critical review of available data on the treatment of acute viral bronchiolitis in previously healthy infants, with special focus on new or promising therapies. The main potential benefits of medical assistance in these patients reside in the careful monitoring of their clinical status, the maintenance of adequate ...
