Bronchoalveolar Lavage

open access: yes, 2012
Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) is a minimally invasive procedure and plays an important role in the diagnostic evaluation of interstitial lung disease, pulmonary infiltrates, and some infectious diseases. The decision to perform bronchoscopy and BAL should be guided by clinical presentation and the patient’s status as well as local technical expertise ...

Metabolic Interplay in Acute Lung Injury: PARK7 Integrates FADS1/2‐Dependent PUFA Metabolism and H3K14 Lactylation to Attenuate Endothelial Ferroptosis and Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SCAP/ARDS patients show reduced unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs) but higher PARK7 and lactate in plasma. PARK7 correlates positively with lactate and negatively with UFAs. Pulmonary endothelial cell multi‐omics show FADS1/2 downregulation and impaired PUFA metabolism. Lactate boosts PARK7 via H3K14 lactylation, and PARK7 then restores FADS1/2.

Clinical variability of equine asthma phenotypes and analysis of diagnostic steps in phenotype differentiation

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica
Background Equine asthma is a common, non-infectious, chronic lung disease that affects up to 80% of the horse population. Strict phenotyping and identification of subclinically asthmatic horses can be challenging.

Activation of USP30 Disrupts Endothelial Cell Function and Aggravates Acute Lung Injury Through Regulating the S‐Adenosylmethionine Cycle

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
USP30 deubiquitinates and stabilizes MAT2A, thereby regulating DNA methylation and miRNA expression, which ultimately leads to disruption of lung endothelial barrier and inflammation. Abstract Microvascular dysfunction is a key contributor to the development of acute inflammatory diseases, characterized by heightened vascular hyperpermeability and ...

Phenylboronic Acid‐Modified Copper Nanozymes as Nanoscavengers of Bacterial Polysaccharides Causing Acute Lung Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel copper nanocluster coated with 4‐mercaptobenzeneboronic acid (CuMPBA) is developed to target bacterial polysaccharides for addressing complicated acute lung injury (ALI) caused by severe burns and early pulmonary infections. CuMPBA exhibits dual anti‐inflammatory and antibacterial mechanisms by: (a) binding and degrading toxic bacterial ...

Two cases of primary human parechovirus pneumonia in adults

open access: yesRespiratory Medicine Case Reports, 2019
Human parechoviruses (HPeV) are mainly isolated from upper respiratory tract infection and gastroenteritis in children. HPeV has not been screened for in the past studies of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in adults, and its association with CAP is ...

Identification of Exhaled Volatile Organic Compounds Biomarkers for Lung Cancer Under Data‐Limited Conditions Using Data Augmentation and Multi‐View Feature Selection

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This work introduces a novel framework for identifying non‐small cell lung cancer biomarkers from hundreds of volatile organic compounds in breath, analyzed via gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry. This method integrates generative data augmentation and multi‐view feature selection, providing a stable and accurate solution for biomarker discovery in ...
