Acute collapse in a dog with multiple autoimmune syndromes and polymyositis complicated by suspected organophosphate/carbamate toxicity

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract A 6.5‐year‐old, spayed, female dog presented in acute respiratory distress. On admission, the dog exhibited dyspnoea, bradycardia, cyanosis and gastrointestinal signs, requiring immediate intubation and mechanical ventilation. Diagnostic evaluation revealed reduced butyrylcholinesterase activity, non‐cardiogenic pulmonary oedema, elevated ...

Clinical Characteristics, Molecular Diagnosis, and Drug Resistance Profiles of Nontuberculous Mycobacteria Infections: A Retrospective Analysis Using PCR Melting Curve Technology

open access: yesClinical and Translational Science, Volume 19, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are emerging global pathogens. This study aimed to analyze the clinical features, species distribution, and drug resistance profiles of NTM infections in a northern Chinese hospital. A retrospective cohort study included 1769 patients with suspected mycobacterial infection from August 2023 to July 2025.

Associations between clinical signs, endoscopic and cytological findings in equine bronchoalveolar lavage samples

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, Volume 38, Issue 2, Page 101-108, February 2026.
Summary Background Endoscopy, including tracheal mucus score (TMS) and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid cytology, is commonly employed in the diagnosis of equine asthma (EA). Large‐scale studies comparing clinical signs, TMS and BAL cytology are warranted.

Acute hepatitis and haemolysis associated with doxycycline and rifampin administration in two weanling foals

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, Volume 38, Issue 2, Page e70-e77, February 2026.
Summary Two foals were being treated with a combination of oral doxycycline and rifampin for presumed Rhodococcus equi infections. After 3–4 weeks of antimicrobial administration, both foals presented with icterus and nonspecific clinical signs, including lethargy and inappetence.
