Dyspnoea-referenced minimal clinically important difference in the resting inspiratory capacity response to short-acting bronchodilators in COPD patients

open access: yesPulmonology
Background In COPD, the clinical significance of bronchodilator-induced changes in inspiratory capacity (IC) at rest remains uncertain. Unlike forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), IC may better reflect symptom improvement, but no minimal ...

Oscillometric assessment of bronchodilator response in horses with severe asthma during remission

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background During clinical remission of severe equine asthma (SEA), affected animals can be challenging to distinguish from healthy horses. In humans, the degree of bronchodilation achieved with a β2‐adrenergic bronchodilator is helpful in differentiating asthmatics from healthy subjects.

Spreading quality improvement in bronchiolitis care: A qualitative study of barriers and facilitators to de‐implementation efforts across Alberta′s healthcare settings

open access: yesJournal of Hospital Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Low‐value care remains prevalent in bronchiolitis management despite evidence‐based guidelines. De‐implementation initiatives face unique challenges compared with traditional implementation efforts, particularly when spreading across diverse healthcare settings.

Therapeutic‐dose verapamil‐induced cardiogenic shock in an older patient: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy Practice and Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Calcium channel blocker (CCB) toxicity most commonly follows deliberate overdose. However, severe toxicity at therapeutic doses may occur in susceptible individuals. Severe CCB toxicity often presents with clinical features of bradycardia, hypotension, hyperglycaemia, and lactic acidosis.

Superior Labial Artery Flap for Septal Perforation Repair: The Boxer's Flap

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
The nasal floor flap, or Boxer's flap, is an anteriorly pedicled, superior labial artery–based mucosal flap that provides excellent closure rates in septal perforation repair when traditional septal flaps are not feasible. The schematic shows: (A) preoperative perforation, (B) nasal floor flap elevation (with the pedicle maintained at the inferior ...

Effects of Age on 1-Second Forced Expiratory Volume Response to Bronchodilation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gerontology, 2009
Background: The bronchodilation test is used to detect reversible airways obstruction, considered important for diagnosing asthma. However, little is known about the effects of age on the bronchodilation response.

High‐Flow Nasal Oxygen in Early Home Pulmonary Rehabilitation for Exertional Hypoxaemia: A Pilot Randomised Feasibility Trial

open access: yesRespirology, EarlyView.
Summary This pilot randomised feasibility trial evaluated the feasibility and acceptability of early, intensive home‐based pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) and high‐flow nasal oxygen (HFO) during exercise in patients with exertional hypoxaemia post‐hospitalisation. Early home‐based PR was feasible and safe.

Biomarkers of Pre‐COPD Lung Function Trajectories in Middle Age: A Prospective Study From 1st to 6th Decade

open access: yesRespirology, EarlyView.
Identifying impaired lifetime lung function trajectories is key to identifying the preclinical phase of COPD (Pre‐COPD) or prognosis of COPD. We have identified that some circulating established COPD biomarkers differ across ‘pre‐COPD’ lung function trajectories, suggesting that some COPD‐specific pathobiological processes, including inflammation, are ...
