Review of Bronchopulmonary Foregut Malformations

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1988
The term bronchopulmonary foregut malformation (BFM) describes rare cases of pulmonary sequestrations that communicate with the upper gastrointestinal tract. An unusual type of BFM is described; it consisted of esophageal atresia, proximal and distal tracheoesophageal fistulae, and bilateral extralobar pulmonary sequestrations communicating with a ...

Bronchopulmonary Foregut Malformation in Association With Diaphragmatic Eventration

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2006
Bronchopulmonary foregut malformations are uncommon anomalies, and their association with diaphragmatic eventration is rare. This report presents 2 cases with this association. Embryologically, a simultaneous disturbance in the development of pulmonary vessels and developing esophagotracheal septum may explain the etiopathogenesis of this association ...

Communicating Bronchopulmonary Foregut Malformations: Classification and Embryogenesis

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1992
Communicating bronchopulmonary foregut malformations (CBPFMs) are characterized by a fistula between an isolated portion of respiratory tissue (ie, a lung, a lung lobe, or a segment) and esophagus or stomach. We combine our 30-year (1959 to 1989) experience of 6 cases with 51 reported patients to propose a CBPFM classification supported by a proposed ...

Esophagus-Like Bronchus: A Noncommunicating Bronchopulmonary Foregut Malformation

International Journal of Surgical Pathology, 2021
We describe a previously unreported bronchopulmonary foregut malformation wherein a segment of a bronchus of the lower lobe of the left lung in a 4-year-old girl was entirely esophageal in structure. No communication was identified between the tracheobronchial tree and the esophagus by radiologic examination or at surgery.

Congenital Bronchopulmonary Foregut Malformations: Concepts and Controversies

Pediatric Radiology, 2006
This article addresses the scope, etiology, important associations and imaging features of congenital bronchopulmonary foregut malformations. Etiologic concepts, including airway obstruction and vascular anomalies, are highlighted. Technical imaging advances, especially CT and MR, have greatly enhanced our diagnostic abilities in evaluating these ...

Bronchopulmonary Foregut Malformations: Embryology, Radiology and Quandary

European Radiology, 2003
Bronchopulmonary foregut malformations (BPFM) are a heterogeneous group of pulmonary developmental anomalies that present at varying ages and with overlapping symptoms, signs and radiology. This article discusses the embryology of these lesions with reference to possible common origins and the link between aetiology and radiological appearance.

Congenital Bronchopulmonary Foregut Malformations: Intralobar and Extralobar Pulmonary Sequestrations Communicating With the Foregut

American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1989
Two unusual variants of bronchopulmonary foregut malformations are presented. The first case was that of a 12-year-old male with a history of pectus excavatum in whom severe lobar emphysema developed secondary to an intralobar pulmonary sequestration that communicated with the esophagus.

Bronchial Reconstruction for Bronchopulmonary Foregut Malformation: A Case Report

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1995
In this case of bronchopulmonary foregut malformation (BPFM), the bronchus of the anomalous pulmonary tissue was reconstructed and tracheoplasty for associated congenital tracheal stenosis was performed at 5 days of age. After reconstruction the right lung was ventilated, which was followed by improved blood gas data.

Bronchopulmonary foregut malformation

General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2011
Bronchopulmonary foregut malformation (BPFM) is a rare anomaly of accessory pulmonary tissue that usually arises from esophagus or stomach. We present a case of extralobar pulmonary sequestration (ELS) connecting with the esophagus by a cyst, the inner wall of which is lined with squamous epithelium or respiratory epithelium.

Bronchopulmonary foregut malformation in an adult

General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2007
A 50-year-old man with repeated episodes of right epigastric pain was seen in our hospital. Chest computed tomography and angiography revealed several arteries feeding an enhanced large mass located in the right lower lobe region. A right lower lobectomy was done with a provisional diagnosis of an intralobar sequestration.
