Integrated biorefinery for cellulosic ethanol and spherical nanolignin production from coconut waste

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Green coconut waste was subjected to different fractionation methods to obtain integrated lignin nanoparticles and cellulosic ethanol. Pretreatment with gradual addition of dilute sulfuric acid provided a higher structural hemicellulose precursor yield (68.2%).

Bioeconomy, sustainability, and digital technologies in Haematococcus lacustris biomass and astaxanthin production: advances and outlook

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Astaxanthin is a carotenoid with strong antioxidant properties, used in research on cancer treatment, ocular injuries, and neurological disorders. When produced by the microalgae Haematococcus lacustris, its antioxidant potential is even higher than that of the synthetic molecule, making it particularly attractive for pharmaceutical and ...

Evaluation of agar dilution and broth microdilution methods for antifungal testing to dermathophytes

open access: yes, 2007
Dermatophytes are keratinophilic fungi that colonize and invade the stratum corneum of the skin, hair and nails causing the dermatophytosis. An increasing number of antifungal agents has become available for the treatment of dermatophytosis, however not ...

Expanding Metabolic Online Monitoring Capabilities in 96‐Deepwell Microtiter Plates by Combining Optoelectronic O2 and CO2 Sensors

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT To increase the information content in early stages of bioprocess development, various technologies have been introduced for monitoring cultivations in microtiter plates (MTPs). Besides spectroscopical measurements, like in the BioLector technology, optical measurements with luminescent sensors, placed directly in the cultivation medium ...

Scalable Separation and Purification of M13‐Bacteriophage‐Derived Particles Containing Artificial Single‐Stranded DNA Produced by Escherichia coli

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Single‐stranded DNA (ssDNA) solutions are promising innovations shaping the future of genetic research and medical therapies. In principle, biotechnological mass production of ssDNA can be achieved using Escherichia coli in a high‐cell density fed‐batch process by secreting phagemid particles derived from the filamentous M13 bacteriophages ...

Enhancing Adeno‐Associated Virus 2 Capsid Engineering Through Co‐Evolutionary Coupling

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Adeno‐associated virus (AAV) has emerged as a leading platform for gene therapy. However, to unlock the full potential, their manufacturing yields, stability, and efficacy must all be improved. Rational design is limited by poor predictability and the potential impact of mutations on multiple important vector properties.

Reducing Cooling Costs for Sustainable Food Biomanufacturing With Thermotolerant Cupriavidus necator H16 Mutant

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
With a thermotolerant C. necator mutant the SCP production costs can be decreased by $0.98/kg. ABSTRACT Autotrophic CO2 conversion to Single Cell Protein (SCP) using H2 and O2 is gaining commercial traction for food and feed production. Cupriavidus necator H16 is a key chassis organism for this “knallgas” fermentation, but industrial operation is ...
