Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1989The objectives in the treatment of the brown recluse spider bite are to prevent skin necrosis and the need for reconstructive surgery. A simple technique that consists of curetting the subcutaneous tissue in the necrotic area of the lesion, to prevent the local destructive actions of the toxin, is described.

The diagnosis and treatment of brown recluse spider bites
Annals of Emergency Medicine, 1987We reviewed our experience with 95 patients who carried the diagnosis of brown recluse spider bite between 1983 and 1986 and identified a reference group of 17 with confirmed bites. Eight men and seven women, average age 32 years, presented within 33 hours following the bites.
