What acoustic telemetry can and cannot tell us about fish biology

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Acoustic telemetry (AT) has become ubiquitous in aquatic monitoring and fish biology, conservation, and management. Since the early use of active ultrasonic tracking that required researchers to follow at a distance their species of interest, the field has diversified considerably, with exciting advances in both hydrophone and transmitter ...

Magic State Distillation and Gate Compilation in Quantum Algorithms for Quantum Chemistry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Quantum algorithms for quantum chemistry map the dynamics of electrons in a molecule to the dynamics of a coupled spin system. To reach chemical accuracy for interesting molecules, a large number of quantum gates must be applied which implies the need for quantum error correction and fault-tolerant quantum computation.

Distribution pattern and population dynamics of Brown trout (Salmo trutta) and Snow trout (Schizothorax richardsonii) in Punatsangchhu River, Bhutan

open access: yesFisheries and Aquatic Sciences
Among larger species of fish found in Punatsang chhu, Brown trout (Salmo trutta) and Snow trout (Schizothorax richardsonii) are notable species. Snow trout is a native species, whereas Brown trout is an introduced species.

BIOCHEMICAL AND MORPHOMETRIC PARAMETERS OF PRE-LARVAE OF THREE SALMONIDS SPECIES AT ONE-DAY AGE

open access: yesRibogospodarsʹka Nauka Ukraïni, 2016
Purpose. To study and analyze the morphometric and some biochemical parameters of pre-larval brown trout, rainbow trout and brook trout in post-embryonic period under the conditions of "Rybnyi Potik” farm in the Transcarpathian region for further use of ...

Simulating the performance of a distance-3 surface code in a linear ion trap [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We explore the feasibility of implementing a small surface code with 9 data qubits and 8 ancilla qubits, commonly referred to as surface-17, using a linear chain of 171Yb+ ions. Two-qubit gates can be performed between any two ions in the chain with gate time increasing linearly with ion distance.

Predicting rare events using training data from stratified sampling designs, with application to human‐caused wildfire prediction

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Statistics, EarlyView.
Abstract Response‐based sampling is often used in modelling rare events from large, imbalanced data for efficiency. When modelling the event with logistic regression, the sampling design may be adjusted for using sampling weights or an offset. We propose a stratified sampling design for modelling rare events with large data which improves on previous ...

Challenge to the model of lake charr evolution: shallow‐ and deep‐water morphs exist within a small postglacial lake

open access: yesBiological Journal of the Linnean Society, EarlyView., 2016
All examples of lake charr (Salvelinus namaycush) diversity occur within the largest, deepest lakes of North America (i.e. > 2000 km2). We report here Rush Lake (1.3 km2) as the first example of a small lake with two lake charr morphs (lean and huronicus). Morphology, diet, life history, and genetics were examined to demonstrate the existence of morphs

Asymptotic Spectral Measures, Quantum Mechanics, and E-theory [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications in Mathematical Physics, 226 (2002) 41-60, 2001
We study the relationship between POV-measures in quantum theory and asymptotic morphisms in the operator algebra E-theory of Connes-Higson. This is done by introducing the theory of "asymptotic" PV-measures and their integral correspondence with positive asymptotic morphisms on locally compact spaces.

Effects of Brook Trout Invasion on Behavioral and Dietary Shifts in Brown Trout

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Behavioral variation within a population is generally maintained by frequency dependent selection, allowing various personalities to coexist. Bolder individuals usually engage in more risky behaviors that can gain fitness benefits such as growth under ...

Food resources and trophic relationships of brown, rainbow trout and european grayling in different habitats of Shypit river of the Transcarpathian region

open access: yesRibogospodarsʹka Nauka Ukraïni, 2016
Purpose. To study food resources, feeding conditions and trophic relationships of the brown trout (Salmo trutta morpha fario), rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), and European grayling (Thymallus thymallus) in a Transcarpatioan river.
