Brucella species-induced brucellosis: Antimicrobial effects, potential resistance and toxicity of silver and gold nanosized particles.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
Brucellosis is an endemic zoonotic disease caused by Brucella species, which are intramacrophage pathogens that make treating this disease challenging.

A BtpB‐Deleted Brucella Vaccine Strain Provides Dual Advantages: Enhanced Protection and Diagnostic Differentiation Capability in Mice

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 18, Issue 9, September 2025.
The Brucella A19ΔBtpB strain induces robust cellular immunity, reduces organ damage, protects mice against M28 infection and enables serological differentiation from other Brucella strains via iELISA. ABSTRACT The Brucella abortus A19 attenuated live vaccine poses potential infection risks during practical applications and interferes with serological ...

FEATURES OF MASS-SPECTROMETRIC PROTEIN PROFILES OF STRAINS OF BRUCELLOSIS CAUSATIVE AGENT DURING PREPARATION OF CULTURE ON VARIOUS NUTRIENT MEDIA

open access: yesЖурнал микробиологии, эпидемиологии и иммунобиологии, 2016
Aim. Carry out comparative analysis using time-of-flight mass-spectrometry with matrix laser desorption/ionization (MALDI-TOF MS) of protein profiles of brucellosis causative agents (Brucella melitensis Rev-1 and Brucella abortus 19BA), cultivated in ...

An HWE‐Family Histidine Kinase Modulates Brucella Cell Envelope Properties and Host Innate Immune Response

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, Volume 124, Issue 3, Page 245-258, September 2025.
The HWE‐family histidine kinase PhyK regulates the cell envelope structure of the intracellular pathogen Brucella ovis and affects how the host immune system responds to this bacterium. Deletion of phyK alters bacterial survival in the face of detergent stress and reduces immune activation in infected macrophages.

Seroprevalence and characterization of Brucella species in cattle slaughtered at Gauteng abattoirs, South Africa

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, 2019
Background Brucellosis is an infectious and contagious zoonotic bacterial disease of both humans and animals. In developing countries where brucellosis is endemic, baseline data on the prevalence of brucellosis, using abattoir facilities, is important ...

Evaluation of the immunogenicity and the protective efficacy in mice of a DNA vaccine encoding SP41 from Brucella melitensis

open access: yesJournal of Infection in Developing Countries, 2013
Introduction: Brucella melitensis is a facultative intracellular Gram-negative bacterial pathogen that may enter the host via ingestion or inhalation, or through conjunctiva or skin abrasions.

Characterisation of Brucella species and biovars in South Africa between 2008 and 2018 using laboratory diagnostic data

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, 2021
Background Brucellosis is an infectious zoonotic bacterial disease of humans and other animals. In the Republic of South Africa (RSA), animal brucellosis is widespread and the current available data on the prevalence of this disease rely solely on ...

Brucella melitensis periprosthetic joint infection:

open access: yesActa Orthopaedica Belgica
Brucellosis, caused by a facultative intracellular gram-negative coccobacillus, is one of the most common zoonotic infections worldwide. Very rarely, brucellosis can cause periprosthetic joint infections (PJI). In this case-based literature review, we summarize the current medical literature regarding Brucella PJI, with the aim to raise awareness among

Testicular abscesses due to Brucella melitensis

open access: yesNew Microbes and New Infections, 2018
Brucella may cause testicular masses, which may be confused with a testicular tumour. We present the case of a man with fever and oedema in the scrotum. Ultrasound and colour Doppler ultrasound with a 6 to 15 MHz high-frequency linear-array transducer was performed, revealing bilateral scrotal wall oedema, heterogeneous echo texture and slightly ...

The Role of Foxes in Transmitting Zoonotic Bacteria to Humans: A Scoping Review

open access: yesZoonoses and Public Health, Volume 72, Issue 6, Page 485-500, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Zoonotic diseases inflict substantial burdens on human and animal populations worldwide, and many of these infections are bacterial. An Australian study investigating environmental risk factors for Buruli ulcer in humans detected the causative agent, Mycobacterium ulcerans , in the faeces of wild foxes, a novel finding that suggests foxes may ...
