This semi‐systematic review supports the two dominant drivers of birth phenology: the seasonality and predation hypotheses. Even though there is evidence of their importance, the effects of female, offspring and population characteristics remain marginally accounted for. Asian and South and Central American species are currently understudied.

Poor husbandry practices in Bukombe District accelerate diseases in livestock and indiscriminate uses of antimicrobials. Cow abortions, raw cow placenta and aborted fetuses feeding dogs, communal grazing and watering and introduction of new animals predict brucellosis in the herd.

Brucella ovis is considered the most important infectious cause of reproductive disorders in sheep. The disease is characterized by epididymitis, subfertility and infertility in rams. B. ovis occasionally results in abortion in ewes, as well.

The prevalence of camel brucellosis was 4.36%. Being adult, female and large herds were significant risk factors for camel brucellosis. The prevalence of human brucellosis was 3.08%. The presence of a positive animal in the household and camel farmers who consume raw milk were significant factors for human brucellosis.
