Assessment of torque components in brushless permanent-magnet machines through numerical analysis of the electromagnetic field [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
For the calculation of torque in brushless (BL) alternating current motors a local method is proposed, based on the Maxwell stress theory and the filtered contributions due to the harmonics of the magnetic vector potential in the motor air gap.

Suppression of DC Winding Current Harmonics in Wound‐Field Machines Under PWM Excitation by Using Active Voltage Injection and LC Low‐Pass Filters

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
In this paper, the LC low‐pass filter is designed and connected in parallel with the DC winding of the MFMWF machine to suppress the high‐frequency sideband harmonics in the DC winding current for the first time. The suppression effect is validated by experiments.

Quantifying the commutation error of a BLDC machine using sensorless load angle estimation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BLDC motors are often used for high speed applications, for example in pumps, ventilators and refrigerators. For commutation discrete position information is necessary.

A Scalable FPGA‐Based Time‐Division Multiplexing Architecture for High‐Precision Synchronous Control of Large‐Scale Micro DC Motors

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
To address the limitations of traditional FPGA‐based multiaxis control schemes—such as excessive resource consumption and complicated parameter tuning—this paper proposes a large‐scale time‐division multiplexing (LTDM) control architecture. By leveraging dynamic resource scheduling and high‐fanout signal optimisation, the proposed architecture enables ...

Magnetic Circuit & Torque Analysis of Brushless DC Motor

open access: yesTikrit Journal of Engineering Sciences, 2010
This work is concerned with magnetic and torque analysis of BLDCM and with development of a method of designing BLDCM that have symmetric winding on the rotor .make significant contribution to the rotor inductance position difficult. It is also show that the prediction detent torque can be extremely sensitive to the permanent magnet by altering magnet ...

Effects of Segmentations on Sleeve Eddy‐Current Losses of FSCW Permanent‐Magnet Machine Considering Stator MMF Harmonics

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This paper investigates the impact of sleeve segmentation on eddy‐current loss in permanent‐magnet (PM) machines with fractional‐slot concentrated‐windings (FSCW) under different stator MMF harmonics. The concept of equivalent sleeve segmentation is introduced.
