The brushless excitation system

A NEW TYPE of excitation system has been developed for use in the electric utility industry in which the generator collector and collector brushes, and the exciter commutator and commutator brushes are eliminated. The basic difference between this system and its predecessors is an a-c exciter mounted on the same shaft as the generator field.

Analysis of polyphase brushless exciter

This paper presents the modeling and simulation of the operation of an 11-phase brushless exciter. The analytical method is based on Kron's tensor method, which is developed for dealing efficiently with the time-varying topology of an exciter circuit during a digital computer solution.

Brushless exciter model

The IEEE model of a brushless exciter can be found in many software packages for the simulation of power system behaviour. Yet the model is simplistic and does not represent the exciter alternator accurately. This paper describes the reasons for the inaccuracy of the IEEE representation and proposes an alternative model.

Flux pump excited brushless alternator

Experimental measurements obtained for a novel brushless superconducting alternator that makes use of a flux pump of the rotating spot type are presented. The flux pump, used to provide the excitation current of the field coils incorporates several features of a machine studied theoretically and reported in an earlier paper.
