Preliminary study on testicular germ cell isolation and transplantation in an endangered endemic species Brycon orbignyanus (Characiformes: Characidae) [PDF]

open access: yesFish Physiology and Biochemistry, 2019
We aimed to develop a simplified protocol for transplantation of Brycon orbignyanus spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) into Astyanax altiparanae testes.

Amides as cryoprotectants for the freezing of Brycon orbignyanus sperm

Aquaculture, 2019
Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of different amides as an alternative for the cryopreservation of sperm from the endangered species, Bryconorbignyamus, an important fish for aquaculture in Brazil. The cryoprotectants which were combined with Beltsville Thawing Solution™ extender, each at the concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, 7 ...

Vitrification protocol for immature Brycon orbignyanus ovarian tissue as an extinction escape strategy

Cryobiology, 2021
Piracanjunba (Brycon orbignyanus) is an endangered South American fish, and ovarian tissue cryopreservation is an alternative method for preserving maternal germplasm and genetic diversity. Therefore, our aim was to test a vitrification protocol for ovarian tissue containing primary growth (PG) oocytes of B.

The influence of triiodothyronine (T3) on the early development of piracanjuba (Brycon orbignyanus)

Fish Physiology and Biochemistry, 2010
This paper reports the triiodothyronine's (T3) effects on the early growth and survival of piracanjuba (Brycon orbignyanus) produced from fertilized eggs hormone exposed. The study was carried out in two phases. In the first phase, eggs divided in 6 batches were immersed in T3 solutions: 0.01; 0.05; 0.1; 0.5 ppm; 1 ppm and control (no T3).

Exogenous ATP in the Cryopreservation of Brycon orbignyanus Spermatozoa.

Cryo letters, 2021
ATP exogenous (ATPe) has been used successfully in improving motility and fertility for many animal species. However this has not yet been tested on Brycon orbignyamus. The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of ATPe for the cryopreservation of sperm from B.

Complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Brycon orbignyanus (Characiformes, Bryconidae)

Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2014
We report the whole mitochondrial genome of the Brycon orbignyanus, commonly known as the piracanjuba. The mitogenome was determined to be a circular, 16,800 bp DNA molecule, containing 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and one 1160 bp noncoding control region.

Digestive proteinases of Brycon orbignyanus (Characidae, Teleostei): characteristics and effects of protein quality

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2002
Juvenile piracanjuba, Brycon orbignyanus, in the wild consume protein from both plant and animal sources. Digestion of protein in piracanjuba begins in the stomach with pepsin, at low pH, and is followed by hydrolysis at alkaline pH in the lumen of the intestine.
