Interaction and coalescence of large bubbles rising in a thin gap [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We present accurate measurements of the relative motion and deformation of two large bubbles released consecutively in a quiescent liquid confined in a thin-gap cell. Though the second bubble injected is smaller, we observed that in all cases it accelerates and catches up with the leading bubble.

Very High‐Frequency Oscillations in Mesial Temporal Lobe Epilepsy: Identifying the Epileptogenic Zone

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To investigate the reliability of very high‐frequency oscillations (VHFOs, 500–2000 Hz) as biomarkers in identifying the epileptogenic zone (EZ) in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE) patients. Methods We reviewed 19 MTLE patients who underwent stereo‐electroencephalography‐guided radiofrequency thermocoagulation.

CFD-DEM Investigation on van der Waals Force in Gas-Solid Bubbling Fluidized Beds [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, 2018
Effect of interparticle force on the hydrodynamics of gas-solid fluidized beds was investigated using the combined method of computational fluid dynamics and discrete element method (CFD-DEM). The cohesive force between particles was considered to follow

Effect of bubble deformability on the vertical channel bubbly flow [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
This article describes the fluid dynamics video: "Effect of bubble deformability on the vertical channel bubbly flow". The effect of bubble deformability on the flow rate of bubbly upflow in a turbulent vertical channel is examined using direct numerical simulations.

Quiet Bubbles [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2011
Motivated by the recent subprime mortgage crisis, we explore whether speculative bubble models of equity based on investor disagreement and short-sales constraints can also provide an explanation for the overvaluation of debt contracts. We find that this is unlikely.

Distinct Network Morphologies from In Situ Polymerization of Microtubules in Giant Polymer‐Lipid Hybrid Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The successful in situ polymerization of microtubules in giant polymer‐lipid hybrid vesicles is illustrated. The microtubules formed in the giant hybrid vesicles exhibit different morphologies including lumenal network formation and membrane association. Abstract Creating artificial cells with a dynamic cytoskeleton, akin to those in living cells, is a

Bubble properties of heterogeneous bubbly flows in a square bubble column [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2010
The present work focuses on the measurements of bubble properties in heterogeneous bubbly flows in a square bubble column. A four-point optical fibre probe was used for this purpose. The accuracy and intrusive effect of the optical probe was investigated first.

Development and Validation of a One‐Dimensional Finite Difference Simulation Scheme for Polymer Laser Powder Bed Fusion with Application to the Effect of the Inter Layer Time

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents an efficient simulation approach for the polymer laser powder bed fusion process polymers process, validated with polyamide 12, polyamide 6, and polyetherketoneketone. It shows that inter layer time affects part density, with 90s yielding dense parts.

Smart Rubber Extrusion Line Combining Multiple Sensor Techniques for AI‐Based Process Control

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This publication presents a digitalization approach for a laboratory rubber extrusion line, employing innovative measurement methods and artificial intelligence (AI)‐based process control. The results demonstrate that the measurement systems are capable of detecting changes in the process and extrudate quality.

Mechanisms of Increasing Weld Depth during Temporal Power Modulation in High‐Power Laser Beam Welding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Temporal power modulation increases weld depth in high‐power laser beam welding of dissimilar round bars by nearly 20% compared to same average continuously welded welding power. The mechanism of action also applies to sheet welding and depends on the inertia of keyhole depth for the modulated laser beam power.
