On the scale-up criteria for bubble columns
It is generally admitted that experimental data obtained in “laboratory-scale” bubble columns are representative of “industrial-scale” reactors if the well-known three “Wilkinson et al.

Investigations in an external-loop airlift photobioreactor with annular light chambers and swirling flow [PDF]
Photosynthetic microorganisms could serve as valuable compounds, but also for environmental applications. Their production under controlled conditions implies to design specific reactors, named photobioreactors, in which light supply is the main ...

Impact of tangled magnetic fields on AGN-blown bubbles [PDF]
There is growing consensus that feedback from AGN is the main mechanism responsible for stopping cooling flows in clusters of galaxies. AGN are known to inflate buoyant bubbles that supply mechanical power to the intracluster gas (ICM).

A precise prediction of the fluid dynamics in bubble columns is of fundamental importance to correctly design “industrial-scale” reactors. It is known that the fluid dynamics in bubble columns is related to the prevailing bubble size distribution ...

Numerical simulation of small bubble-big bubble-liquid three-phase flows [PDF]
Numerical simulations of the small bubble-big bubble-liquid three phase heterogeneous flow\ud in a square cross-sectioned bubble column were carried out with the commercial CFD\ud package CFX-4.4 to explore the effect of superficial velocity and inlet ...

Unified modeling of bubbly flows in pipes, bubble columns, and airlift columns
Abstract Multiphase CFD simulation is a valuable tool in process engineering which is particularly useful to study new reactor concepts and their scale-up from laboratory to production scale. Simulations of bubbly flows up to industrial dimensions are feasible within the Eulerian two-fluid framework of interpenetrating continua.

Studies Pressure Drop of gas-Non-Newtonian Liquid Two Phase Flow in Bubble Column [PDF]
An exclusive study has been done on experimental investigation of the two-phase flowpressure drop in an air-non-Newtonian liquid (CMC solutions) system in bubble column. The effects of gas and liquid flow rate on two-phase pressure drop have been ...
