Mass transfer and bubble size in a bubble column under pressure
Chemical Engineering Science, 1994The influence of pressure on the gas hold-up in a bubble column is determined for a sodium sulphite solution in combination with the volumetric mass transfer coefficient. Furthermore, for the same conditions the bubble size is also estimated from photos.

Generation and characterization of submicron size bubbles
Advances in Colloid and Interface Science, 2012A baffled high intensity agitation (BHIA) cell was used to generate submicron size bubbles of an average diameter around 500nm by hydrodynamic cavitation. The generation of submicron size bubbles by BHIA cell was found to be largely dependent on the agitation speed of impellers. The duration of agitation and temperature showed only a marginal effect on

Bubble sizes produced by shear and turbulence in a bubble column
Chemical Engineering Science, 1983Abstract Measurements of bubble sizes for co-current upward air-water flow in a recirculating loop bubble column are described. The bubble sizes were determined with a two electrode conductivity detector. The effectiveness of two different designs of baffle in reducing the bubble size is assessed.

Influence of bubble size on micro-bubble drag reduction
Experiments in Fluids, 2006Micro-bubble drag reduction experiments were conducted in a turbulent water channel flow. Compressed nitrogen was used to force flow through a slot injector located in the plate beneath the boundary layer of the tunnel test section. Gas and bubbly mixtures were injected into a turbulent boundary layer (TBL), and the resulting friction drag was measured

Estimation of the size bubbles in a bubble chamber by contrast measurement
Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1971Abstract The diameter of an unresolved bubble can be estimated by measuring the contrast of its image in brightfield illumination. In a test of the method eleven bubbles on a single track were measured; the results agreed with the diameter expected from the chamber temperature and pressure and the growth time.

Bubble‐Size distributions and flow fields in bubble columns
AIChE Journal, 2002AbstractBubble‐size distributions and flow fields in bubble columns are calculated numerically. The population balance is simplified and reduced to a balance equation for the average bubble volume. Models developed predict the rate of bubble breakup and coalescence based on physical principles.

Study of Bubble Size and Velocity in a Vibrating Bubble Column
Volume 1B, Symposia: Fluid Mechanics (Fundamental Issues and Perspectives; Industrial and Environmental Applications); Multiphase Flow and Systems (Multiscale Methods; Noninvasive Measurements; Numerical Methods; Heat Transfer; Performance); Transport Phenomena (Clean Energy; Mixing; Manufacturing and Materials Processing); Turbulent Flows — Issues and Perspectives; Algorithms and Applications for High Performance CFD Computation; Fluid Power; Fluid Dynamics of Wind Energy; Marine Hydrodynamics, 2016Bubble columns are two-phase and three-phase reactors in which a gas flow drives a liquid flow and allows transport phenomena’s to take place. With a broad application from aeration of organic organisms in bio-rectors to hydrogenation of coal slurries in the Fischer-Tropsch process and production of synthetic fuel, bubble column reactors are cheap and ...

Electrochemical probe for bubble size prediction in a bubble column
Experimental Thermal and Fluid Science, 1997Abstract The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that the electrochemical probe can be used as a means of measuring bubble sizes. The apparent local mass transfer coefficient on a spherical surface was measured in a bubble column with homogeneous bubbling regimes (bubbles of approximately equal size and uniformly distributed across the column ...

Bubble size distribution in the sparger region of bubble columns
Chemical Engineering Science, 2002Abstract It is well known that the gas distributor can play an important role on the evolution of the bubble size distribution (BSD) in gas–liquid reactors, strippers and absorbers. Therefore, the main subject of the present work was to study the influence of sparger design and process parameters on the BSD in the sparger region of the considered ...

Bubble Size Distribution in Oil‐Based Bubble Columns
Chemical Engineering & Technology, 2008AbstractA practical population balance model was used to evaluate the bubble size distribution in a bubble column. In addition, the bubble size distribution in the bubble column was measured at different gas velocities by photography and analysis of the pictures.
