In situ measurements of void fractions and bubble size distributions in bubble curtains

open access: yesExperiments in Fluids, 2023
AbstractWe report the development of a novel measurement system designed to measure bubble properties in bubble curtains (i.e. planar bubble plumes) in situ alongside acoustical measurements. Our approach is based on electrical, contact-based needle sensors in combination with an optical system.

Inversion of Volume Scattering Function for Estimation of Bubble Size Distribution in Ocean Waters

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
Angular distribution of the intensity of light scattered by a spherical air bubble in the oceanic medium is distinctive near the critical scattering angle region, when light interacts with a bubble with a refractive index less than its surrounding medium.

Effect of Operating Parameters on the Coalescence and Breakup of Bubbles in a Multiphase Pump Based on a CFD-PBM Coupled Model

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
When the multiphase pump is running, the internal medium often exists as bubble flow. In order to investigate the bubble occurrence characteristics in the pressurization unit of the multiphase pump more accurately, this paper couples computational fluid ...

Hydrodynamics and mass transfer in bubble column: Influence of liquid phase surface tension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
According to literature, few experiments are performed in organic solvents which are mostly used in commercial gas–liquid reactors. However, it is commonly accepted that data obtained in aqueous solution allow to predict the surface tension effects, and ...

Bubble growth in a two-dimensional viscoelastic foam [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The effects of viscoelasticity on the expansion of gas bubbles arranged in a hexagonal array in a polymeric fluid are investigated. The expansion is driven by the diffusion of a soluble gas from the liquid phase, and the rate of expansion is controlled ...

Gas Bubble Dynamics During Methane Hydrate Formation and its Influence on Geophysical Properties of Sediment Using High-Resolution Synchrotron Imaging and Rock Physics Modeling

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2022
Gas bubble in aquatic sediments has a significant effect on its geophysical and geomechanical properties. Recent studies have shown that methane gas and hydrate can coexist in gas hydrate–bearing sediments.

Hydrodynamics, acoustics and scaling of traveling bubble cavitation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Recent observations of the geometries of growing and collapsing bubbles over axisymmetric headforms have revealed the complexity of the "microfluidmechanics" associated with these flows (Hamilton et al., 1982, Briancon Marjollet and Franc, 1990, Ceccio ...

Application of the double optic probe technique to distorted tumbling bubbles in aqueous or organic liquid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The optic probe technique is widely used to investigate bubble reactors. To derive values of bubble local velocities and bubble local sizes, a specific signal treatment is usually applied under severe assumptions for bubble path and shape.

Characterization of Bubble Size Distributions within a Bubble Column [PDF]

open access: yesFluids, 2018
The current study experimentally examines bubble size distribution (BSD) within a bubble column and the associated characteristic length scales. Air was injected into a column of water via a single injection tube. The column diameter (63–102 mm), injection tube diameter (0.8–1.6 mm) and superficial gas velocity (1.4–55 mm/s) were varied. Large samples (

A Review of Bubble Dynamics in Liquid Metals

open access: yesMetals, 2021
Gas bubbles are of major importance in most metallurgical processes. They promote chemical reactions, homogenize the melt, or float inclusions. Thus, their dynamics are of crucial interest for the optimization of metallurgical processes.
