Variability of Acoustically Evidenced Methane Bubble Emissions Offshore Western Svalbard

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2019
Large reservoirs of methane present in Arctic marine sediments are susceptible to rapid warming, promoting increasing methane emissions. Gas bubbles in the water column can be detected, and flow rates can be quantified using hydroacoustic survey methods,

Turbulent Bubbly Channel Flow: Role of Bubble Deformability [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
This article describes the fluid dynamics video: "Turbulent Bubbly Channel Flow: Role of Bubble Deformability." The effect of bubble deformability on the flow rate of bubbly upflow in a turbulent vertical channel is examined using direct numerical simulations. A series of simulations with bubbles of decreasing deformability shows a transition from flow

Wetting of soap bubbles on hydrophilic, hydrophobic and superhydrophobic surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Wetting of sessile bubbles on solid and liquid surfaces has been studied. A model is presented for the contact angle of a sessile bubble based on a modified Young equation - the experimental results agree with the model. A hydrophilic surface results in a bubble contact angle of 90 deg whereas on a superhydrophobic surface one observes 134 deg.

Reducing bubbles in glass coatings improves electrical breakdown strength [PDF]

open access: yes, 1968
Helium reduces bubbles in glass coatings of accelerator grids for ion thrustors. Fusing the coating in a helium atmosphere creates helium bubbles in the glass.

A Novel Approach to Produce Metal–Metal Composites by Leveraging Immiscibility: Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Nanosilver‐Dispersed Titanium

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Incorporating nanosized silver into titanium for antimicrobial materials exploits the metastable miscibility gap between silver and titanium. Silver nanoparticles are synthesized via pulsed laser ablation in liquid. Silver addition refines the microstructure, increases hardness by 30%, and reduces Staphylococcus capitis microbial adhesion by 70%, with ...

The double and triple bubble problem for stationary varifolds: the convex case [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
We characterize the critical points of the double bubble problem in $\mathbb{R}^n$ and the triple bubble problem in $\mathbb{R}^3$, in the case the bubbles are convex.

Molecular Lines of 13 Galactic Infrared Bubble Regions

open access: yes, 2016
We investigated the physical properties of molecular clouds and star formation processes around infrared bubbles which are essentially expanding HII regions. We performed observations of 13 galactic infrared bubble fields containing 18 bubbles.

Maillard Type Reaction for Electroless Copper Plating onto Ceramic Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents the manufacturing of copper‐plated ceramic nanoparticles in an environmentally friendly way. Supported by organic functionalizations with pectin an electroless plating step can be performed. Sustainable reagents like xylose, and several amino acids are used for the reduction process.

Vapour and air bubble collapse analysis in viscous compressible water

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Exatas e Tecnológicas, 2001
Numerical simulations of the collapse of bubbles (or cavities) are shown, using the finite difference method, taking into account the compressibility of the liquid, expected to occur in the final stages of the collapse process.
