Effects of introducing dynamic constraints for buckling to truss sizing optimization problems [PDF]

open access: yesFME Transactions, 2018
In this paper the effects of adding buckling constraints to truss sizing optimization for minimizing mass are investigated. Introduction of buckling testing increases the complexity of the optimization process as Euler buckling criteria changes with each

Thermal buckling of ballasted tangent track

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2020
Euler type analysis usually used for compression members in structural engineering does not work for railroad track. Euler type analytical formulas for horizontal and vertical buckling endorsed in a recent literature is reviewed to demonstrate its ...

Explicit Buckling Analysis of Rotationally Restrained Plates on Rigid Base Under Various Loading Conditions

open access: yesShanghai Jiaotong Daxue xuebao, 2022
In order to investigate the unilateral buckling behavior of rectangular plates with different elastic rotational restraint stiffnesses on the rigid foundation, the buckling of rectangular plates with elastic rotation constraints on the rigid foundation ...

Multifunctional Crushing and Piezoresistive Self‐Sensing in Conductive Epoxy/CNT‐Coated Polyetherimide TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports lightweight polyetherimide triply periodic minimal surfaces lattices coated with carbon nanotube‐reinforced epoxy that combine mechanical robustness with self‐sensing. The conformal coating enhances stiffness, strength and energy absorption while enabling reliable strain monitoring.

Scleral buckling with chandelier illumination

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmic & Vision Research, 2016
Scleral buckling is a highly successful technique for the repair of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment that requires intra-operative examination of the retina and treatment of retinal breaks via indirect ophthalmoscopy.

An analytical model for elasto-plastic buckling of columns [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The theory of buckling strength of compression members in the plastic range has been extensively studied, and numerical methods already exist which deal with such behaviour.

Numerical Modeling of Tank Cars Carrying Hazardous Materials With and Without Composite Metal Foam

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Large‐scale puncture models consisting of hazardous materials (HAZMATs) tank car with protective steel–steel composite metal foam (S–S CMF) are solved numerically. Tank car plate with added 10.91–13.33 mm thick S–S CMF layer does not puncture. Protective S–S CMF absorbs impact energy, reduces plate deformation, and prevents shear bands formation ...

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Rigorous derivation of the formula for the buckling load in axially compressed circular cylindrical shells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The goal of this paper is to apply the recently developed theory of buckling of arbitrary slender bodies to a tractable yet non-trivial example of buckling in axially compressed circular cylindrical shells, regarded as three-dimensional hyperelastic ...
