On the behavior of an eye encircled by a scleral buckle

Journal of Mathematical Biology, 2016
A mechanics based mathematical model for the behavior of an eye encircled by a scleral buckle, a procedure used by surgeons to correct retinal detachment, is developed. Closed form analytical solutions are obtained, and results of numerical simulations based on those solutions are presented.

Buckling and post-buckling behavior of the ACS support columns

Nuclear Engineering and Design, 1983
Abstract Computer program development and modeling procedures for above-core structures (ACS) have recently focused on modeling the buckling and post-buckling behavior of the ACS support columns. These developments are directed toward two considerations: (1) the prediction of the forces exerted by the column in a hypothetical core-disruptive accident

Post‐Buckling Behavior

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1983
A survey of post‐buckling behavior of structures is presented. Using simple models, the basic characteristics of the buckling and post‐buckling process are outlined. Included are discussions of stable and unstable post‐buckling behavior and of the role of imperfections in stability behavior.

On the buckling behavior of micromachined beams

Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering, 1999
Thin film materials are normally under residual stresses as a result of fabrication processes. Unlike microelectronics devices, a micromechanical structure is no longer constrained by its underlying silicon substrate after anisotropic etch undercutting; therefore, residual stresses may result in the bending and buckling of a micromechanical structure ...

Buckling Behavior of Laminated Composite Plates

Journal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites, 2007
In this study, the influence of boundary conditions on the buckling load for rectangular plates of various cutout shape, length/thickness ratio, and ply orientation is examined. Boundary conditions consisting of clamped, pinned, and their combinations are considered. Numerical and experimental studies are conducted to investigate the effect of boundary

Overall Buckling Behavior of All-Steel Buckling Restrained Braces

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2012
Abstract One of the key requirements for the desirable mechanical behavior of buckling restrained braces (BRBs) under severe earthquake loading is to prevent global buckling until the brace member reaches sufficient plastic deformation and ductility.

Buckling and post-buckling behavior of shallow supported cylindrical panels

Russian Aeronautics (Iz VUZ), 2012
The problem of the post-buckling behavior of the supported cylindrical panel under uniform axial compression is solved. The cylindrical supported panel is considered as a beam on the Winkler elastic foundation, the stiffness coefficient of which is calculated at the known value of buckling load. The criteria for post-buckling estimation are introduced,

Buckling Behavior of an Inelastic Column

Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1965
A numerical procedure is presented for the determination of the inelastic buckling behavior of an initially straight or wavy column before and after the occurrence of the maximum load. A point of bifurcation of equilibrium positions may occur for an initially straight as well as wavy column.

Carbon nanocones under compression: Buckling and post-buckling behaviors

Physical Review B, 2007
The mechanical behavior of single-walled carbon nanocones (SWCNCs) with 19.2\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} apex angles under compression was investigated in the study reported herein. The analysis was performed using molecular dynamics simulation.
