New Insight into Interaction of Buckling Modes with Stable Post-buckling Response

Arabian Journal for Science and Engineering, 2014
Buckling mode interaction of elastic systems in the presence of initial imperfections is well known to have a detrimental effect on the response of a wide range of structural systems. This has been demonstrated mostly analytically for simple models, assuming small displacements, thus obtaining results with questionable validity in the post-buckling ...

On seeking buckling modes of a circular plate

Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 1990
The paper deals with the buckling of a circular plate with constant thickness and axisymmetric deformation. The nonlinear Kármán equations are used for solving the problem. The solution is obtained by using series in Bessel functions. The differential equations are transformed into an infinite system of nonlinear algebraic equations.

High‐mode buckling responses of buckling‐restrained brace core plates

Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics, 2013
SUMMARYCyclic loading tests and finite element analyses on six novel all‐steel buckling‐restrained braces (BRBs) are conducted using different loading patterns to investigate the core plate high‐mode buckling phenomenon. The proposed BRB is composed of a core member and a pair of identical restraining members, which restrains the core member by using ...

Buckling mode as an imperfection in arch structures

Pollack Periodica, 2013
An Equivalent Unique Global and Local Imperfection (sometimes referred as an ‘EUGLI’ imperfection) is an equivalent imperfection that has a shape affine to the form of a critical elastic buckling mode. This design method, in its generalized form designated for the frame structures, is included in the EN 1993-1-1 cl. 5.3.2 (11) since 2002.

FINITE ELEMENTS FOR THREE-MODE INTERACTION IN BUCKLING ANALYSIS

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1996
This paper presents a finite element formulation for the buckling mode interaction analysis of structures modelled as plate assemblies. The main assumptions are linear elasticity, a linear fundamental path, the existence of distinct critical states that are coincident or near coincident, and a coupled path arising from a linear combination of modal ...

MODE JUMPING AND ATTRACTIVE PATHS IN MULTIMODE ELASTIC BUCKLING

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1997
Summary: This paper examines multimode elastic buckling within an FEM strategy. The theoretical arguments unfold among critical points on radial paths (the unique post-critical path variationally defined), algebraic characterizations, and so on, by aiming to prove that the complexity of the phenomenon of multimode buckling (secondary bifurcations, post-

Koiter's Buckling Mode for Short Cylindrical Shells

AIAA Journal, 1972
All working equations (except the assumed deflections) are derived from operations performed on the energy functional, that is, the summation of all the quadratic energy terms associated with the deformation during buckling, as developed by Koiter. This is given in Ref. 1 and has been modified in Ref.
