Evaluating the Air Respiratory Capacity of Awaous (Chonophorus) tajasica (Gobiiformes: Oxudercidae): A Morpho‐Functional Study

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, EarlyView.
We demonstrated that Awaous tajasica performs facultative air breathing under experimental conditions of dissolved oxygen limitation, retaining air bubbles in the buccal cavity during gill ventilation. Morpho‐functional evidence indicates the use of atmospheric oxygen as a respiratory support under conditions of low water oxygenation.

Borax Promotes Fertility of Brassica napus Better Than Other Boron Species at Suboptimal Supply

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Continuous and sufficient boron (B) supply is essential for achieving maximum yield in Brassica napus. Increasing incidences of environmental water limitation are linked to reduced plant B availability and increased B deficiencies.

Management of the Blueberry Gall Midge on Southern Highbush Blueberries in Florida

open access: yesEDIS
The blueberry gall midge (BGM) is one of the most important pests of southern highbush blueberries in Florida. Monitoring for BGM using clear sticky traps or bucket traps should begin as early as November. Chemical control should be applied right before

Seasonal variation of leaf functional traits in sub‐Arctic plants

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Leaf functional traits are informative of plant fitness and functions in ecosystems. These functional traits and their variation across geographic extents are much studied but less is known about their temporal variation over a growing season. Here, we provide an analysis of the seasonal variation in six leaf functional traits of 11 sub‐Arctic vascular

INFLUENCE OF LOW-FREQUENCY ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD ON THE VEGETATIVE GROWTH OF GRAPE CV. USLU [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Central European Agriculture, 2007
Low-frequency electromagnetic fi eld (ELF) at 50 Hz, 0.15 mT was applied to canes of ‘Uslu’ grape for 5, 10, 15 and 20 minutes. The canes were prepared by cutting them into 50-60 mm one-bud scions.

The missing woodland story: Implications of 1700 years of stand‐scale change on ‘naturalness’ and managing remnant broadleaved woodlands

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Longer‐term perspectives—equivalent to the lifespans of long‐lived trees—are required to fully inform perceptions of ‘naturalness’ used in woodland conservation and management. Stand‐scale dynamics of an old growth temperate woodland are reconstructed using palaeoecological data.
