Autonomous Optimization of Air‐Processed Perovskite Solar Cell in a Multidimensional Parameter Space

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A machine learning (ML)‐driven autonomous framework is introduced for optimizing the fabrication conditions of air‐processed perovskite solar cells (PSCs). By effectively exploring a complex multidimensional parameter space, the framework identifies optimal conditions for high‐performance PSCs with limited trials.

Form Factor–Free Magneto‐Triboelectric Generator for Standalone Power Line IoT Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
These limitations are addressed by employing iron, one of the most abundant materials on Earth, and the flexible ferroelectric polymer P(VDF‐TrFE). The composite film of P(VDF‐TrFE) and iron exhibits mechanical deformation under magnetic fields, combined with excellent flexibility, cost‐effective fabrication, and straightforward processing.

US employment exposure to domestic and foreign tariff changes under NAFTA

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
Abstract Literature examining the effects of changes in trade agreements and import competition on US employment and wages has focused primarily on non‐agricultural industries and changes in US import tariffs. We propose a method for measuring worker exposure to changes in agricultural tariffs using a newly developed county‐level dataset of employment ...

Food waste, date labels, and risk preferences: An experimental exploration

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
Abstract This study provides theoretical and experimental evidence that consumers adjust their premeditated food waste by date labels and their risk and loss preferences. The “Use by” date label leads to more premeditated food waste than “Best by” for deli meat and spaghetti sauce.

Can reducing administrative burdens increase benefit amounts? Evidence from SNAP simplified reporting

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
Abstract Relaxing administrative burdens can boost enrollment in benefit programs. However, administrative burdens can influence other outcomes of interest. Simplified reporting is a state policy option that reduces the amount of information Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients must report between certifications.

The effects of extreme weather on rural transportation infrastructure and crop prices along the Lower Mississippi River

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
Abstract Extreme weather events are worsening the fragile rural infrastructure in the United States, impacting trade flows of agricultural products. The Mississippi River, vital for transporting agricultural commodities, reached historic lows during the 2022 and 2023 fall harvests, increasing transportation costs and lowering crop prices.

Incorporating economic multipliers in a bid adjustment algorithm for public food procurement decision making

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
Abstract We present an adjusted bid price mechanism that incorporates economic multiplier effects in public food procurement decision making. Under Input–Output model assumptions, the algorithm estimates enhanced tax revenues to state governments through multiplier effects associated with in‐state supplier purchasing.

What matters for agricultural trade? Assessing the role of trade deal provisions using machine learning

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper employs machine learning to determine which preferential trade agreement (PTA) provisions are relevant to agricultural trade patterns and the factors that may influence their adoption. Utilizing the three‐way gravity model, we apply plug‐in Lasso regularized regression to pinpoint predictive PTA provisions for agricultural trade ...

Toward Reuse‐Ready PV: A Perspective on Recent Advances, Practices, and Future Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, EarlyView.
This perspective study sheds light on current research and future challenges toward higher PV reuse readiness in PV industry. It highlights qualification methods, PV repair strategies, and standardization efforts for PV reuse. A four‐step example of triage‐for‐reuse framework is discussed, as well as recent advances in PV repair strategies for reuse ...

The Environmental Emission and Climate Change Impact of Hydrogen Fuel Derived from Photocatalysis Water‐Splitting Reaction

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, EarlyView.
In this works, life cycle analysis (LCA) of photocatalysis hydrogen synthesis reaction based on a pilot scale system is presented. Through the LCA, it is shown that majority of the carbon emission of the process is contributed by photocatalyst synthesis process and the use of sacrificial reagent in the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction ...
